Last year, the lottery jackpots were the leading stories on AOL, MSN and Yahoo. Last night I had to go looking for it. It wasn't even one of the top trending stories on Yahoo much less a news story. They started showing more interest today, but Beyonce's possible pregnancy, Maria Carey's lip synching, and Kim Kardashian's swollen feet were apparently much more important. Annuity or Lump Sum?Reply
I am pro lump sum, but in this case of $600 million. I would really consider taking the annunity if I was the sole winner which would be $15 million dollars a year. That is more than I need and most state lottery jackpots.

No long lines here! Weird because I remember when there were large jackpots in the mid to late 90's, the local news would show lines of people waiting to buy their chance. I'm not sure when that changed, but I haven't seen a line in at least 10 years. Every c-store, grocery store, likker store, smoke shop, etc etc etc sells them, and at the grocery stores there's usually 1 or 2 vending machines per store plus you can get them at the customer service counter, so that really spreads out the people

We have two multi-million jackpots games and I believe each state lottery/jurisdiction offers both so one of them could create a must win jackpot when the jackpot reaches a certain amount of a certain number of rolls. If nobody wins the jackpot the prize could be redistributed into all the secondary prizes using a pari-mutual formula with each prize having separate prize pools.

Sounds like they thinking of making more money by almost eliminating the chances of having to payout a jackpot. It will certainly make some states games more profitable especially if they have better odds for winning jackpots of $20-$50M. Unless they up MM second prize, local games will probably have better odds for prizes amounts.
