There is no reason Mega Millions and Powerball can't allow jackpot winners to remain anoymous
How much marketing benefit is gained by giving the name of a person that wins a jackpot as opposed to allowing a winner to remain anonymous? Does anyone remember the name of the person that wins the jackpot after one month (besides people that do things that keep their name in the public eye)? A winner should not have to give up privacy when winning a jackpot in in return for minimal (if any) marketing gain. They aren't trying to convince an auditor that real people win the lotter

Schedule for "Lottery Changed My Life"
Good points, rundown99. I used to post The Lottery Jackpot Winner's Protection Program as a joke, but the more of these I see, the better that idea sounds. Like the guy in New Mexico getting all the mail. He handled it well, especially the look on his face when someone wrote in asking to be staked to play in the poker tournament. If there was such a program, whoever ran it (one person or several) would represent the winner or winners at the press conference, handle all correspondence, e

why you haven't won the lottery
You haven't won yet because you don't deserve it. Talking about trusts and investments and making your money work for you, it just means that you'd loaf around and live in idleness and degeneracy and wanton luxury. The world doesn't need any more of those kinds of riffraff living out their days in anonymous leisure. A beach bum sipping margaritas and checking their investments online on their laptops on the front porch overlooking a million dollar view of the shoreline, yea.

Lottery winner loses ticket, awarded unspent portion from couple who found it
That is what I am thinking! If I found a signed ticket or a lost paycheck.....I would know that it isn't mine. Since those documents obviously are attached to a particular individual. In that case....it might be easier to track down the name attached to the document. Same applies to a wallet or vehicle. Those will either have an ID/credit card that can be traced back to the rightful owner. A vehicle has a VIN# that can track down the registered owner. An unsigned ticket....is simply tha

Win the jackpot...now what?
I'd hire a tax attorney/accountant. Interview no less then 5 attorneys accountants before you make your final decision on who you want to hire. I'd skip the financial advisor. You can learn everything they know by educating yourself on the various types of investments. I'd probably spread the money amongst 3 different brokerages (Schwab, Fidelity, and Vanguard). Your tax attorney/accountant would be best qualified to answer your tax questions. I wouldn't bother much with CD's. I'd invest 7

FL resident looking for way to play/win Powerball anonymously
With respect to the original post, I say go for it...I live next to a state that allows the winner to remain anonymous, so sometimes I'll drive across the border to play for this reason. Sure, it's a bit of gas and time, but it's actually something I really enjoy (gives me plenty of time to brainstorm on how I will spend my winnings!). By the way, I always use the multi-draw option so I can play the same set of numbers for 15 draws. I find this to work really well, as I don't have to worry about

Collecting Big Winnings
I'd just keep the ticket in a safe spot and contact a CPA first. I thought about going straight to the lottery office but I changed my mind. (I don't even play lotteries anymore...) Tax is inevitable and I would share small portions of my winning with my family. (Mom, dad, and two sisters.) The main reason to hire a lawyer is to set up a plan for financial neteggs and preparing for any possible BS lawsuits. If the JP amount is moderate I'd just go to the office with my lawyer, but winning a

Grrrrr
But let's not kid ourselves, Raven. What is the reason lotteries such as PB or MM were started? To create huge, eye-catching jackpots. If I wanted a meager jackpot, I could focus my attention to the state Classic Lotto. The jackpots are meager by comparison, but that is expected. Not so for the MM. Nobody is kidding anyone here. The reason we play a multistate lottery over the classic state lotteries is because of dreams of a big payout. It is equally frustrating because of the economic do

Judge rules Washington lottery winners can't be anonymous
EEEKKK! Don't know what to say... I think they should of been allowed to be anonymous. One with children (esp. young ones) should be allowed to protect correctly. And if they feel safer doing so, they should not be questioned. I hope I don't get lots of flack from this. Its just my opinion. I live about 1 hour from Yakima, and their fears are understandable. Though I don't go to Yakima very often, unless I'm headed for Seattle, there is ALWAYS ALWAYS some sort of crime going on there on

Why you should try to remain anonymous if you ever win a jackpot!
I would love to remain anonymous, but the problem was poor decision making as much or more than anything else. $2,000 a week and 4 cars to a 17 year old? I can almost get my head around 4 cars, but what on earth is a 17 year old going to buy with $2,000 a week? He is an adult and should have taught her responsibility. For example: Oh, you want a corvette now, instead of that pickup. Okay, honey, but you only get 1 car, so we can trade the pickup in towards a corvette, or you can keep
