Ohio Lottery investigating frequent winners
Actually I said the name Patel is about as common as Smith, Jones, or Brown and I haven't read any evidence where the Patel in this article did something illegal. What are the odds? The odds are pretty good that several LP members won't understand how the players spending hundreds a day on scratch-offs, pick-3, and pick-4 tickets will win more of the prizes than $5 a week player. The same people that can't understand how 70% of jackpot winners are QPs when 70% of the tickets sold are QPs

If Texas scraps the state lottery, will you play another state lottery?
Critics have long sought to end the Texas lottery, and the issue came to a head last year when members of the Texas House, in an unexpected move, voted to do so. Within hours, as questions arose about how to replace the money that flows from the lottery into the state's public schools, legislators shifted gears and continued the lottery. I thought the title Is it game over for the Texas Lottery was to get people to read the article and not an accurate assessment. Each state with a lottery has

16 siblings share $20 million lottery jackpot in New Jersey
Wow, that's pretty harsh. It's also ignorant. Plenty of people win who deserve it and these people seem to fall into that category. The article said 16 siblings will split the pot, along with three children of a brother who died a few years ago. It didn't say, but I'm thinking the $10 million after tax prize will be split 17 ways, which comes to $588k ea., not a huge sum by any standards, particularly when this information is considered: ... jackpot they'll use to repair homes they lost in

Alabama man loses $80,000 in foreign lottery scam
Thanks, cbr$, for reminding us that the lottery isn't offered in Alabama. That is probably not because the Governor and other politicians believe it to be a sin though, lol. Rather, it is because the average lottery playing adult is in the red $520/annually, each year they play. Anyhow, no offered lottery is probably why these successful con artists are purchasing the Retirees phone#, address, age, etc. list!!! As the Postmaster pleaded in this article: Awareness and communication are key. I

$259 million Powerball winner took poverty vow
I'm thinking this could get quite interesting. The article in the OP mentioned he belongs to an Episcopalian order. The Presiding Bishop (highest ranking person, denominational leader) of the Episcopalian church is Katharine Jefferts Schori, a former oceanographer who got turned down for a research grant so went to a seminary. Some Episcopalian churches, entire dioceses, have split away to an organization called ACNA, the Anglican Council of North America, a much more conservative gr

Streaks and the " HOT HAND "-article from Ny times
As a former HS and Collegiate Athlete I can say there is such a thing as a hot hand and streaks in baseball are well known. Athletes will tell you that they are in a groove things come much easier without as much effort. Everything is a chance, but the fact that some are so much more obviously streaky, while others are more consistent can be plain seen. The article tries to separate several things that are really combined to make a streak and therefore not separate at all! Psychology ha

Streaks and the " HOT HAND "-article from Ny times
Interesting article, Igamble. Sometimes it is rational to expect streaks, sometimes not. You have to know the odds. For example, in Pick3, if you get zero digits repeating from the last game the odds of it happening again in the next game are 44%. So you tend to see streaks of 2 or 3 in a row. OTOH, for 2 digits repeating from the last game, the odds of another 2 digit repeat are only 14%, so streaks are rare. So, if you know the odds you won't be expecting streaks when they are less

How to win the lottery (happily)
HAPPY FRIDAY MAY 30TH I completely agree with most of ur Post Goon this study didn't teach me anything new either. I already knew how to Win and how to handle the Win. One of the points the article doesn't show is that everyones' life is different. No one lives the same. I live here in the State of Maryland. My State offers Annonymity. However, if I were to ever WIN BIG...I don't care who knows I won. I don't care if my Family knows or not. I am not hiding from anyone. I will celebrate, no
