Redd it probably was not reported earlier because it wasnt going to be a big increase due to prior ticket sales and they do not know the final amount until ticket sales have ended. Unless there is a mad rush to start buying tickets right after a really big JP is advertised you never see them increase the estimated JP ahead of time. IT takes a boat load of sales before they move up the advertised JP.

Personally I really don't care. Who in the heck needs a billion dollars anyway? I'm done with those two games, they increase the odds and increase the price of a ticket. I really don't like being played for a fool. I play the lower odd's games, give me a million and I'll be happy.

The fallacy that I often hear is if you play the same number your chances increase. Richard Lustig proudly states this advice even though it makes absolutely no sense, and is a cliche example of gambler's fallacy logic. This isn't how probability works. Each draw is an independent roll of the previous outcome. Picking a quick pick, in my opinion, is the best way to increase a person's odds.

Until they change it again, $40 Million is the starting point for all Powerball jackpots not 478M. It'll increase to maybe 490 at the top end and if it rolls it'll increase to maybe 540M.
