No Privacy For FL Jackpot Winner
Pac writes:
I've had to change my phone number many times, and have moved 5 times so far.
Isn't that to hide from the police and the IRS?
Yes, I think Pac is joking around. He likes to pick on me when I write a blog or start a new thread.
Anyway, since Pac's profile shows he lives in Bonita Springs, I wonder if he's already visited Mr. Wu for a loan.
I can't say I feel sorry for Mr. Wu since he is so stinking, filthy rich now. However, I do hope he and his family wi

Off the wall strategies or just wasting time?
Hello, Rainmaker.
Since you asked - GA stands for Gambler's Anonymous. $60 a day is quite a lot of money, even $60 a week if you aren't getting any positive results. However, in response to who asked your opinion about $60 for recreational play? I see the point Coin Toss is trying to make since you mentioned that gas is expensive. So when you brought that up, I also had the same reaction he did. After all if $60 a day is recreational gambling then you wouldn't be concerned about an ext

does age play a factor when winning the jackpot?
Hi, I first browsed these forums lastnight and tonight felt compelled to join and respond after reading this topic.
Like others have said, I don't think age has anything to do with it either and I believe that it largely depends on the person, people who don't either learn from past mistakes, their own or others. That or they just can't handle the it. If I were to win, say 100 million dollars after taxes I'd not give a nickle to anyone aside my mother and grandmother and the amount I'd giv

Take part in the Oxford University Gambling Survey
Oxford University would like to invite you to complete an anonymous survey on online gambling. As a thank you for your time, you will be given the option at the end of the survey to enter a prize draw for the chance to win one of six 80GB video-playing iPods.
Online gambling has increased substantially in the last few years. Little is known about the effects of the Internet on people's gambling behaviour and its impact on people who use these sites a little and those who use these sites a lo

Anyone watch E! True Hollywood Story: Curse of the Lottery show?
MissNYC,
Listen, we obviously are from very different generations and don't see eye to eye
TV shows about rich and famous people have been on for over 50 years so it s more of a matter of taste than a generation gap. Before TV they showed it on news reels at movie theaters. Is there really that big a difference between Liz Taylor and one of her 22 husbands showing off their fabulous home on one of the 3 or 4 networks in the 50s and watching somebody on MTV today?
Whether or not there

Playing for Someone Else
Guru101
Nope. We're talking about too much money. It could actually hit. Too many problems could arise.
So, if you were postive it wouldn't hit, then you'd do it?
TODAY'S SPIRIT OF GIVING AWARD FROM MadTV GOES TO Guru101!

... If you won and you hand the clerk at 7-11 a big check, chances are it would hit the news!
That's why it's better to play a ticket for the clerk, and ust be known as the 'anonymous stranger'.

What would you do if you had the winning lottery ticket BUT.
I'm not saying I won.... I'm just saying what should be my plan of attack if I did.
I live in a NON anonymous state. (meaning they want to plaster your name all over the place.)
and I am a paranoid man about money....I want all my ducks in a row, you see...
Now I know that contacting a lawyer, or at best a financial planner, is probably the best thing to do.
BUT...what would happen if you have JUST the winning ticket and about 47 cents in the bank?
Whadya do then?

Setting a trust for anonymity: how does it work?
I've never done this myself, but my understanding is that you would probably
go to a tax attorney and create a revocable blind trust. If the lottery in your
state accepts that, then they would be publishing the name of your trust
as a winner instead of your name. Of course you would forego all the press
conference and all that, but I guess it depends on your state if the winner
wants to stay anonymous.

You've realized you won the JP, what happens in the next hour for you?
I'd be very shaky. I'd say my favorite expression, holy f-ing crap! . I'd check the numbers at several different places to make sure somebody didn't mess up posting them. It would probably take 10 or 15 minutes to convince myself I had really won.
Then I'd scream Yes! Yes! Yes! and then spend the next 5 minutes hugging and dancing with the kitties telling them the first thing we'll buy is a safe place to build an enclosure where they could go outside whenever they wanted. Well, I'd be

Why the sudden concern with anonymity ?
IF they allowed winners to remain anonymous, I GUARANTEE YOU that all of you would start asking questions after the 10th, 15th, 20th, etc. lottery winners went unannounced.
Someone wins 360 mill, and nobody knows who.
Someone wins 400 mill, and nobody knows.
Several people win several 150 mill jackpots over the course of 2-3 years, and nobody knows who, I KNOW people will start asking questions, and don't even try to say you would not be wondering yourselves.
Don't want to be famous
