Why the sudden concern with anonymity ?
I KNEW as soon as I saw the story about them printing the guy's info that THIS would be the topic most would refer to... and I clearly agree that whoever made up the check with all the info should be fired, that won't solve the guy's possible grief. That said, I don't see a problem with a guy holding up a fake check with his name and the dollar amount on it, I DO see a problem with anything else besides those two things on it, that's a big-time screwup I am sure we all agree on - even me.

I am going to try to change the rules about annonymity...
MegaWinner Listen to rundown99 and Surge. The lottery provides the games for us to choose to play, or not. The players could, if enough of them acted together, get a game changed by not playing it (and file that under 'once upon a time'....) But as far as an individual getting a state or lottery to change to allowing a jackpot winner to be anonymous, well, we don't dictate to the lottery, it sets the rules. Read the back of your tickets, in some states the ticket itself is an a

Am I the only one so determined to be anonymous that I'd actually change my name to do it? So tell me if this would work. Say I have the winning ticket for tonight's Powerball. Tomorrow I go rent an apartment in a city just over the state line, and use that address to apply for a name change in that jurisdiction so it would be published in a paper where nobody knows me. While waiting for the name change, sell my home and anything else that has my current name on it. Claim the jac

how would YOU change the payouts?
I would change 2 things about powerball/mega... 1. Withhold taxes that are actually due, not a lesser amount and then force the winners to pay estimated taxes on the balance due. Interest is not the issue, this is one trap that burns many winners. 2. Allow winners to remain anonymous. OR at least ban the media from the information for 1 year after the win to allow the winners time to move and erase their tracks... The ONLY people that need to know who won are the winner, the lottery organi

A question about sharing your wealth with others.
I do think remaining anonymous would be nice, only to avoid the press and other nuisances. However, it's so easy to simply go to a local store and buy a ticket. Why go out of your way to play a game that has such astronomical odds? This is a game and, although it could change my life, when I forget that it's a game is when I need to get serious counseling. (actually, I probably do now since I often think I've got a chance. lol) When I look in the paper every week there are lots of home

Kansas Powerball lottery winner claims jackpot anonymously
A government worker and grandfather from the Topeka area stepped forward Monday to claim the $15 million Powerball jackpot from Wednesday's drawing. The man, who under state law can remain anonymous, chose to take a cash lump-sum payment of $7.17 million instead of the entire amount over 29 years. After taxes, he took home a little more than $5 million. I'm now referring to my life as BP (Before Powerball) and AP (After Powerball), he said. Last Tuesday I was worried about how I was goi

Taxes on Canadian lottery winnings
KY Floyd might well have given accurate, factual information. You might well be correct in declaring it thus. As you assert, a person can choose to believe both of you know of what you speak. But a prudent person who has anything invested in learning the truth would do well to protect whatever that investment might be by getting the facts from sources more verifiable than the words of strangers of whom nothing is known other than the certainties expressed in words on a screen by anonymous f

someone is a millionaire and they don’t know
its ran by the state lottery commissions, in ea state. or a private company in the case of tattersals. i remeber b4 computers being popular, we had a name and address section on the carbon copy lotto tickets. we had to enter our details, and tick a box to remain anonymous. we kept s copy and the other copy was sent on by the agent! when it all became electronic, my state added a members or players club. where your details where linked to the ticket. prizes cant be claimed without y

Had a weird idea about claiming a jackpot
When I was online, you weren't, so I figured you went to bed. I've had chronic insomnia for 30 years. Drinking caffeine drinks only exacerbates the problem, unless you want to stay up. Believe me, I understand that problem too. Anyway, I'm sorry if my answer sounded a bit sarcastic. I was just teasing acting silly, which is how I get at 3AM. Here in Florida I'm pretty certain the sole proprietor of any LLC must sign the papers and his/her name is announced in the press release. I don't th
