Powerball would probably be stuck at $40 million for two or three draws in a row. Its guaranteed jackpots continue too late in the rollover series. The last three times, it took Powerball nine draws without a winner for it to rise out of the guaranteed label.

That has been the general idea that has guided most lotteries up to now but from the information I've seen about PB sales and reported payouts, that may not be possible when its jackpots don't exceed $90M with its fixed starting jackpot and rollover amounts.

The MUSL jackpot games are hard enough to win. If they weren't, they would never roll over. Due to guaranteed PB jackpots going too late in their runs, the MUSL might have to fix the PB game though, by eliminating minimum rollovers, since MM apparently doesn't have a minimum rollover.

Some of the larger states have local games with larger jackpots and better odds. For example, Ohio has Classic Lotto with a jackpot of $24M/$12M cash with odds of 1:14M which is likely to take away from MegaMillions sales for a week of so until it's larger.

By upping their jackpots it means they will make it more expensive to play or a little harder to win. I kinda like the way both are structured right now. I don't want them to look too similar. Also $12M is still a lot of money. A man earning $50,000 a year will have to work 180,000 to earn $9M (Cash option for MM before taxes). I like the contrasts of the two games.

This doesn't surprise me. MM needs to up their jackpots. I mean look how many weeks it takes MM just to reach the PB minimum..

Will Powerball rollover?
Well, the Powerball jackpot is now at $50 million again, where it was won the last two times. Will it roll to $60 million for Saturday or will it hit again? My vote is no because I'm not playing Wednesday. If it is won again, the MUSL folks will be really steamed, because they're really hurting paying off these guaranteed jackpots.

Just because it seems easy for some people to win is no reason to punish all the other players who continue to try and win it, after all it's the tickets they buy that build up the jackpots for those few winners.

I agree Joshua, let the unclaimed jackpots go back into the lottery pool instead of back to the states. The players played the money not the states.
