Tenn. lawmakers want to force lottery to drop computer draws
There is new discussion in the Tennessee Legislature about the possibility of the state lottery going back to using ping-pong balls to select the Cash 3 and Cash 4 winners. In 2007, a computer programming error prevented anyone who played repeated digits, such as two fives in a row, from winning. The error was discovered Aug. 20 when lottery officials contacted the system designer, Smartplay, about their concerns. The lottery is asking Smartplay, and the company that certified the syste

FLASH: Tennessee Lottery audit won't investigate drawing errors
The legislators ought to jump in and speak up for the people. We could care less about how the computers are working now in fact we would be grateful if they tossed the junk computers in the trash or donated them to some school. After all it was the glitch that caused people to notice and people tried on numerous occasions to get them to look into their computer problem and they denied having one. It is clear to the players now that at the keystroke of the computer they can manipulate th

if you found a winning ticket that wasn't yours
Ok. I gotta chime in on this one. The IRS doesn't nickel and dime, they don't care. It is too time consuming for them to go after the little ones. Remember, the majority of taxes paid to the IRS comes from business and the top 10% of income earners I am talking like 90% of the collected taxes comes from the top income brackets. Any money that you make and keep in your mattress unreported, is just that, in your mattress. They only know about it if you bank it and earn interest on it. I ha

Calif. Lottery misprint leaves 'winners' with nothing
They're good and bad in all operators, that's really not the issue. Vendors that have contracts with the state to print tickets should have some type of audit process to catch these type of glitches, and when they don't they are liable. Get a lawyer and sue, maybe not the state since they can get out of anything, that's just the way it is and what people are allowing the state to get away with. But the contractor should be liable for misprints and the financial burden they create. The ave

Court dismisses lottery suit, orders man to pay fees
Flame is correct in his fact. My comments: The guy actually can appeal and take his one part of the case further. If indeed its true that the lottery is not allocating its funds correctly as it advertises. Naturally the guy has the odds against him since the lottery commission can delay stuff in courts and break his bank for trying. Years ago Pennsylvania used to promote that 50% of its proceeds went to elderly programs. It has ceased making such a claim and now simply says some of

WOW, TALK ABOUT ADDICTION: Woman stole $2.3M to buy lottery tickets
I agree that on the surface it would seem fishy. In this case the fish was caught in a small pond. ITs VERY easy to splurge on Pick 3/Pick4 match 6/ Powerball or MegaBall and instant games! Instant games have tickets that cost $20.00 a pop! I buy the story because Ive read how church book keepers steal money for years! ANd the church pardons them! WHy? Because to them its not their money, its the good lords. A physician office depends on a book keeper! The physician is skilled in medical area

New Minnesota lottery director brings fresh start
Clint Harris often uses the words trauma year to describe what happened at the Minnesota State Lottery in the months before he took over as executive director.George Andersen, who had run the lottery since its inception, had committed suicide shortly after learning that a state audit would reveal an unflattering picture of his management.Harris, at the time director of South Dakota's lottery, had close professional ties with Andersen and considered him a friend. When I came aboard, the staff h
