I think they're smart enough to not make the field of numbers 100. As someone else in Lottery Post once said, the matrix is a double-edged sword. Sure, if they increase the matrix, they will probably increase the average jackpot size, but on the other hand, they may significantly decrease the number of players who buy tickets at low jackpot levels. For instance, Powerball sold 4 million tickets less than normal for last night's drawing for $80 million.

Because of the National events of gas and Katrina, I would normally be cutting back; however, my wife got a new job making $20,000 more annually, and I got an increase of $16,000; so, fortunately for me (and I say that very humbly) I am able to increase my purchases probably until the end of the year or until I hit. If I don't hit at the end of the year (a Jackpot, that is) then I'll adjust accordingly with my budget as I enter the New Year!

Substituting a bonus ball for the 6th ball would improve the game. The odds for the 3-. 4-. and 5-ball matches would increase and they could increase the corresponding prizes to make the game more attractive, all done without changing the matrix. I agree what you said CASH Only about PB payments increase each year just like CA SLP. If I won a big jackpot, I would likely take the one time lump sum because Uncle Sam would take money away only once. They are setting up their annuitized jackpot in a way where you get more money in the later years then in the earlier years...just a way to increase the advertised jackpot more and faster. The top prize amount is based on the amount of each State contribution and their sales didn't increase because California joined the group.
