Ohio winner of $196M lottery jackpot claims prize anonymously
Anyone who remembers the younger couple (at least she was. . .maybe like 27) who won the $20M jackpot in the Canandian Lottery will also remember the story that appeared a few months after their win about some guy who hatched a plan to kidnap the family to extort their money and then kill them all so as not to be identified. . .or maybe we could remember Bud Post's brother who was attempting to hire a hit man to revenge what the brother thought was not enough of a gift. . .or the thousands of re

List of States Which Allow Anonymous Winners
Missouri: (Website FAQ):
If I should win the jackpot, do I have the option of remaining anonymous to the public and the media?Missouri state law requires the Lottery to release your name, cityof residence and the amount of the prize.
You will also be asked, but are not required, to participate in a newsconference, most likely at the store where you purchased your winningticket. News conferences can also be held at a Lottery office. Thisprovides the media with a single photo opportunity

Who really need money?
This is a great reply, fja.
Also, LuckyLilly wrote: Ban the old rich people from playing, and I'd hate to see the dive the jackpot amounts take. Gotta have money going in to have prize money coming out.
I agree. Pac is saying that he sees lots of people in luxury cars buying tickets. Others are saying they should leave some for the rest of us (I didn't know the lottery was a charity!) Eliminate the people who don't really need it and the lottery wouldn't exist.

Lottery Post Polls / Topics
Oops. I forgot I couldn't edit the poll along with this comment. Well, I ran out of spaces, so I will continue.
11.) What kind of car would you drive?
12.) Would you continue to work?
13.) Would you post your ticket on Lottery Post?
14.) Is the lottery really random?
15.) Do you think the lottery is rigged?
16.) Other (explain)
I think it's a toss up between Quick Picks or Your Own Numbers Annuity vs Cash.
Remaining anonymous is a close second.

No Privacy For FL Jackpot Winner
First, I was going to post this in the Jackpot Games forum, but read on and you will see why I chose Lottery Discussion.
Now, even as I write this, I'm thinking Be careful. This is the internet. You don't want to draw a map to your front door by saying you know exactly where this man lives. So imagine winning 1/2 of a very large state lottery jackpot and seeing your address in the paper.
The article in the Fort Myers News-Press did not say where in Bonita Springs this man lives, althoug

You win the mega millions $163 million on tuesday.
There's no doubt that some of those who have won big have managed to hold on to the money, but there's no guarantee whatsoever that they haven't been bothered.
I'd certainly consider getting 50,000 leters from strangers addressed to Lottery Winner being bothered. That's not to mention family, friends, aquaintainces, neighbors, co-workers, and others who have access to you or see you on a daily basis. Even some of those who see you once in a blue moon will see to it that those blue moons

Payment of Lottery Prizes
justxploring....I have a different take on the situation you outlined above, winning in Sept or Oct and waiting until January. First what I would do is break down the IRS statement as follows:
When Paid
A payment of winnings is considered made when it is paid, either actually or constructively, to the winner. Winnings are constructively paid when they are credited to, or set apart for, that person without any substantial limitation or restriction on the time, manner, or condition of payme

Thanksgiving Travel - Will You Play State Lotteries Along the Way?
Thank YOU, Lucky Lily for putting this together. I answered 3-5. I am going from Philly to Cleveland and wil take a small detour on the way back via the northern panhandle of West Virginia. I may make a side trip to Michigan, too, while in the Land of Cleves.
Usually, I play Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland and occasionally Virginia. Oh, and sometimes New York.
If I ever win Powerball I hope it is with the Delaware tickets - option to stay anonymous, don't you know!

pick 3 lottery card
Coin Toss, I don't keep my pencil in the plastic sleeve. I complete the form in black ink at home before I leave. Don't want to be a counter hogger.
A laminated playslip or a laminated ticket? Something that is laminated is only good if it's used for a long time. Anyway, the playslip would never fit into the terminal! There are plastic sleeves given to all the retailers for distribution to players so they can keep their slips protected from getting wet or bent. It's also good advertisi
