You misunderstand my point, I'm not saying the economy is not doing well. Simply that as I originally stated the difference between the cv and annuity is not a direct reflection of how the economy is doing as was implied.

Yup, exactly. Which is why I'm always so surprised when people keep insisting that a person should take the annuity if they don't know how to budget. If they don't know how to budget, they won't miraculously learn how when come into a large sum of money even if the money comes once a year. They either sell off future payments or borrow against it to cover their overspending.

Wouldn't it be a wise move to take the annuity? I mean,we are talking about a $700 mill difference here which by itself is astronomical. The first cheque itself would set you up for many years,so why bother about getting the cash option?

I'm putting the cart before the horse here, but if she rolls tonight, the jackpot will need to reach $1.75B before the cash option and the annuity are both #1 in history (assuming the same ratio of CASH OPTION/.565)... The last estimate the 1/9/2016 jackpot was $947.9 million, but I have no idea what the first estimate for the 1/13/2016 drawing was. This jackpot run has lots in common with that one and with no winner on Friday will probably set the all time record for both cash and annuity.
