The Lottery Is A Game That Can Only Be Won In The Short Run?
Since I pretty much just started playing a few months ago is there a history of people winning by buying TONS of tickets versus somebody who only buys one? Like are most jackpots won because somebody bought 1 ticket or are more winners because they were able to spend like hundreds and hundreds of dollars?

$325 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot increased before draw date
Thanks for the warm welcome, mcginnin56!
Oooh, yes, anybody has an equal chance of winning, of course. Afterall, it really only does take one ticket. I didn't mean to shoot down any dreams, ha ha. I just figured that since there is a higher population density in the east, there would be obviously more ticket sales, and thus, more people overall who could have scored the winning ticket versus someone else in the nation. Doesn't mean they necessarily have a better chance at winning over someon

are u buying more or less pb lines since price increase
Same per week. But overall, I'd liked to cut it there and not buy an extra ticket on a whim -- like heading to the gas station and grabbing some quarters out of the change jar. Feels strange to scrounge up $2 on a whim. Big picture, less lines but not by much. (Granted, this is all one month into the new pricing. Ask me again if we see two more $300m jackpots.)

$310 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot in rare territory
Wow did this Jackpot grow fast. I'm guessing that Powerball going to $2 is going to see a lot of Jackpots well over 150 million as the norm...I'm also guessing it won't be long until Mega millions follows suit.

So why has the price for Powerball tickets gone up anyway?
Tks for the history lesson RJOh. if more state lotto would learn from it. The multi state lotto's have really taken a lot from the states and the state games could only really grab some of that market back by offering really generous payouts like 80% of cash taken in or something, cant see greedy state politicians going for that., or public servants devising ways to cut back their share of the money. so individual state draws will continue to decline :( money talks and gamblers chase higher jack

If i knew I wouldnt tell
to the original poster, most of us only post for p3,p4, cash five-these ones your not cutting into someone's millions, however having said that many people post just so that people can get 4-5 numbers on the big jackpots, or at least try tooo...if you play good luck to you

$200 MILLION: New Powerball delivers huge lottery jackpot
While the PowerBall organization is responsible for paying the jackpots, all other prizes are the responsibility of the individual states where they are won so it would have had to be a state by state decision. Had any state with only one or two second place winners defaulted, it would have been an admission that they had structured the game such that the advertised prizes couldn't be paid under normal circumstances which would have probably ended the game.

$200 MILLION: New Powerball delivers huge lottery jackpot
Well, the jackpot is at $200 million on the 12th draw. That took 13 draws in October 2011 - when interest rates were higher (meaning higher annuity jackpots). And the new game was in place for only five draws in this run.

$200 MILLION: New Powerball delivers huge lottery jackpot
I dont know if we are going to see record jackpots or not, the old powerball had greater odds of winning then mega, yet mega has the highest jackpot between the two. I could be wrong but I thought I read somewhere Powerball used to cap the jackpot increases once it got to a record amount. Do they still do this?

I just dont understand!?!?!
What's stupid is spending $1 on a chance to win $10 million when the same $1 can get you the same chance at winning $20, $30 or $50 million. Some people understand that and spend their money on the better risk that they know will come along in a week or two. Others either don't understand it of have some reason they choose to spend their money on something that's worth less. Considering that what you're buying is usually worthless, concentrating on the bigger jackpots is the closest thing there
