275 Million for Saturday Powerball
This is the third time sales for powerball has not created the annuity estimate. The jackpot was $274.7 bye the time it drew so I guess powerball fever is not alive yet but give a roll or two to see if we can't get more people to play.-wehar75

Lottery winner gets 21 years for financing drug trafficking operation
Not the first time and wont be the last. Quite a while ago, I remember reading about a guy in Ventura County being arraigned for heroin trafficking and asking for a public defender. The DA objected stating that he was a lottery winner and receiving an annuity of $50k a year.

Indiana Powerball winner claims $435 million jackpot anonymously
But it's not 189 million out of 435 million like you're stating. The 435 million is just the projected amount you will receive if you take the annuity option. The 435 million doesn't actually exist yet. The cash value is what they actually have in the pot.

Indiana Powerball winner claims $435 million jackpot anonymously
Read a little closer. He accepted the cash option, and that's what he was taxed on -- not the annuity value. He was taxed exactly right. Look at the Jackpot Analysis for Indiana for that drawing: https://www.usamega.com/powerball-jackpot.asp?d=2/22/2017

N.J. Gov. proposes using lottery funds to fix pension hole
3/2/17 How interesting to hear that lottery money considered to fund public pensions in New Jersey. NJ budget up to $34Billion? Unfunded Pension liabilities $66.2Billion? What higher education programs were funded with lottery monies? Makes one rethink any annuity payment option as a bad bet when playing those Big jackpots with annuity choices.

Annuities -- Then and Now
The lump sum never goes up or down. It's always exactly 100.0% of the portion of ticket sales that goes to the jackpot prize pool. The annuity for any given amount of cash is now higher.

Does the increase in the return on bonds increase the payout on annuity's
If the lump sum would be extremely tiny to the point that you can't live extravagantly off of, why not just get a nice check instead? I expect to live way past any annuity timeline, so why not get all that extra cash?

Does the increase in the return on bonds increase the payout on annuity's
oh ok i used to work out my share of the prize by dividing the annuity by 5.2; 2.6 for the total cash amount, but that has changed now. closer to divide by 6 or 3. smaller cash amounts , higher advertised jackpots. got it.

Does the increase in the return on bonds increase the payout on annuity's
I watch way too much business news - with the rise in the bond rate (rate of return) do the annuity rates go up? I thought they were based on the bond rate? Hoping someone smarter than me can help, thanks.
