No Jackpot winner Power Ball 7/27/16 Now $478 mil ($330.6 Mil Cash Value)
Lack of sales. The Pennsylvania judge who won Powerball in March for example was supposed to get 192 Million in Cash but when they did the sales analysis they reduced it to 191.7 Million (I'll take it) The 311 Million annuity a few draws back was reduced to 302 Million by the drawing time but unfortunately there was no way to tell if the cash value had dropped.

Annuity vs Cash Value
Just remember that the payout for the annuity is back-end heavy. For powerball, you would literally get 50% of the money during the last 10 years of the 30 year payout timeline. So you would have to deal with 20 years of inflation before you get half of the of your money and another 10 years to get the other half.

Pennsylvania lottery winners now subject to state tax on prizes
I agree. They (MUSL) prey on the occasional novice players who always seem to think the advertised annuity is what they receive (most don't even factor taxes).

$333 MILLION: Powerball offers up summertime riches
he's waiting for it to move up a position on his lifetime lottery jackpot standings. can't wait to see if it gains 1 or 2 positions especially on that annuity list that no one ever takes.

Just be forewarned about those factoring companies like JG Wentworth and others. They will contact you. A phrase you could use is, NO Action Here . A fellow poster recommended Ed Ugels' book. He was one of those factoring employees and told us what they did to annuity winners. Those companies are not charities.

$333 MILLION: Powerball offers up summertime riches
who cares if david lee edwards squandered his lottery win. of course no one on here will get the chance but if some miracle happens i'm sure 99% of the populace won't turn into jack whittaker or david lee edwards. even if someone blows 3/4 of it they still will have more than enough to get by. certainly much more than before they won. annuity works if you're young and worried. simple enough.

Annuity vs Cash Value
I chose the lump sum. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. A lot can happen in 20 years. Politically and economically things seem to be getting screwier and screwier every year. What happens if things go south and the government decides to confiscate annuity funds? Look at the national debt, 20 trillion and counting. Wouldn't hurt to move some of that money to off-shore accounts.

Annuity vs Cash Value
At this time in my life, I will take the cash. The factors in my decision are the interest rate, my age, my health, plans to share with others, plans to invest, not having to talk with those factoring companies who want to buy my annuity, and to celebrate life!

Annuity vs Cash Value
I'm leaning towards taking the Annuity at the moment though I really don't know because the variables will change and so I would have to look at the situation when it happens before I decide.
