$333 MILLION: Powerball offers up summertime riches
You are correct TheMeatman2005. Most of us will take the Lump Sum. But for those just graduating from high school or college they might consider the Annuity. They have their whole lives ahead of them and no experience handling large sums of cash.

$333 MILLION: Powerball offers up summertime riches
Just a $22 mil increase from the previous drawing of $311 mil. People must be tired of playing the lottery or annuity interest rates suck or both.

Stunned & in disbelief over last night's Powerball drawing!
I like to watch the drawing about an hour to an hour and half after the live drawing on the internet since it is not broadcast were I live in mcminnville, oregon. One thing I have noticed is the annuity is not even making it to the estimated jackpot lately. Out of the last three drawings two of them have come up short so I think that powerball is going to like being the only big jackpot now because they should not be falling short this wednesday night of $311 million.-weshar75

$540 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot raised on huge sales
what percentage of winners took the cash Have you viewed www.powerball.com or www.megamillions.com ? It is very rare for a winner to take the annuity. Most choose CASH.

$540 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot raised on huge sales
explain drenick why is it helpful. if you win one they are going to tell you what the annuity and cash value is for that one and you can't change it. so why do the previous ones matter. the actual amount publicized every time is going to drive sales, not what place it is now in all time. i guess it is somewhat interesting to look at the list but it being helpful is a stretch.

$540 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot raised on huge sales
I think it's quite helpful as it showcases annuity and cash values from previous jackpots. Besides, anyone who won a top 25 jackpot is probably too busy enjoying life to care whether or not a top 25 list is annoying.

Do you think MEGA MILLIONS will reach $1 Billion?
It's tough what with interest rates and all. If the rates go negative here like they did in Europe then the annuity amount will be less than the cash amount!

Man buys wrong lottery ticket, wins $169 million
These days annuity is pointless. You still end up paying taxes on the interest. If you get a good stock broker, they could probably get you at least a 6-8% APY where most banks are 1%. I'd like to know what Bank the MUSL uses to figure out their cash value.

Man buys wrong lottery ticket, wins $169 million
You get your money either way. The cash value is the true jackpot amount. They invest the cash amount to pay an annuity for 25, 30 years, whatever. You would be getting the money over a period of years. If you elect to take the cash, you just invest it on your own.

Could "can't win" ever become this strong?
Your story is feeling really really realistic right now. Both jackpots are increasing slowly despite both being massive amounts. We might have 2 preliminary jackpots on the 25 highest annuity/cash jackpot lists soon if neither hits.
