60 days to decide if lump sum or annuity, 180 days to claim. Huh?
When you buy a ticket you have to select Annuity or Lump Sum. The 60 Days give you the Option to change the Choice made at the time you Purchased the Ticket.

60 days to decide if lump sum or annuity, 180 days to claim. Huh?
So I read on some state lottery sites that you have 60 days time to decide whether you want your price as a lump sum or an annuity, but a whole 180 days to claim before you forfeit your prize.

Past members of LP you would like to see return..
I don't remember her name, but I think she was a financial adviser and she used to give really good advice about money management and tax laws. Always gave very cogent arguments against taking annuities. She was the first person I'd known to spell it out so clearly. Before her, I'd been on the fence about annuity vs CV, but she was convincing enough that I did the research and found she was 100% spot on.

Before this weekend the sales estimate for Wednesday was $130 million, I think it will be $180 million which would bring the annuity to $450M. We'll see

$300 MILLION: Massive Powerball jackpot fuels New Year's dreams
I remember reading something about that, but it was written by a lawyer and made my eyes glaze over. As I recall, it had something to do with electing for cash value or the annuity. Since here in Texas we have to opt for either method when we buy our tickets and cannot change when claiming, I didn't even try to make sense of it. As you say, one day can make a difference and as I said, winners definitely need to get qualified financial advice before claiming.

Would you quit playing altogether should you win a major jackpot...
Already I'm playing so much less than I use to, so probably I will keep going with the 1draw pb/mm each game draw after my big win (lump sum) --- and I will start doing scratchers - trying to catch a 1M$ or 10M$ ticket (annuity) - just for vacation money. Then after I have my big jackpot win and a medium scratcher win - then I will stop - and only buy tix as gifts. Cuz at that point my focus will change. whoot!

$63 million California Lottery ticket expires soon
In Illinois, noise-gate, one certainly wouldn't wait a few months to CLAIM their lottery ticket's jackpot win! The reason is because if winner files their claim form within 2 months of drawing date they may receive the LUMP SUM amount ... yet sadly, if winner files their claim form after 2 months time, only option is to be paid via annual annuity deposit into their checking account, etc. [You'll notice that most financial advisers recommend not having your full contact and annual updates to your

Are you ready for the attention?
Nobody explained how a before tax annuity could reach $1 billion much less grow to a $1 billion prize where somebody would actually be an after taxes Billionaire. As for the attention, how many LP members remember who won the record $656 million MM jackpot in 2012?

Are you ready for the attention?
There'll be a billion dollars worth of media attention, but the winner won't be a billionaire. Take the cash value of the annuity and subtract taxes. They'll be left with something like 340 million.
