Florida Lotto reaches its largest jackpot in 12 years
Thanks for the info on the Euro lotteries. So everyone else does it the realistic way - what you see is what you get, which is the way it should be. I don't think the American ones need to plump up the jackpot winnings by advertising the future value of an annuity. It'd still turn my head with the lower, realistic value, as it does in other countries. It's just an old-fashioned concept that needs to get tossed in the bin.

Florida Lotto reaches its largest jackpot in 12 years
Most of the euro-lotteries I've played are WYSIWYG, and they don't tax you upfront when you win. The monster jackpots{annuity}, advertising in the USA, are simply HEAD TURNERS. They make you leap before you look. It has been working for them so far.

Florida Lotto reaches its largest jackpot in 12 years
After all the monster jackpots we've had lately,..........$54mil. cash is great, annuity...not a big deal anymore. I will still gladly take either one regardless. A win is a win.

NY man gets maximum sentence for stolen $5M lottery ticket
Hopefully he'll get the annuity although if he's still a junkie, I'm not sure if that'll even help. It's a tough one because he's obviously not up to the task of dealing with sudden wealth but where do you draw the line? When do you butt in and start managing lottery winners' lives without trampling on their freedom?

What is the ideal amount of money you would like to win ?
I'd like $200 million cash value after taxes. Not necessarily from a single drawing; multiple wins would be fine. Regardless of the size of the jackpot I win, though, I'd put 1/3rd toward current expenditures like houses, furnishings, and a 25 or 30 year annuity; 1/3rd distributed to family and freinds; 1/3rd for investments in startup companies and publicly traded stocks.

16 maintenance workers said to be New Jersey Powerball winners
You seem to have forgotten that virtually nobody takes the annuity. The cash value of each ticket is a hair over $86 milin before taxes, so split 16 ways they start from about $5.375 million.

Powerball Jackpot Now $425 Million
Yup. It does not really matter. What matters is having the ticket with the matching numbers drawn Wednesday night. Then and only then will I get excited about the jackpot being $425 million annuity / $244.7 million cash value. Now time to purchase some QPs.

$400 MILLION: Powerball jackpot skyrockets
If you read the Q A section of their website that situation is addressed. The remaining part of your annuity is paid in a lump sum to your estate allowing the family to settle any tax claims.

If nobody wins PB on Wed, will Saturdays beat Gloria Mackenzie record?
If it rolls Sat then its possible that the annuity record could be beat but not cash value record of 471 which was what the MM record is. Have to have 2 ollovers to do
