Has the lottery ever failed to pay annuity?
Yes, many long years ago. When annuity was the only way the jackpot was awarded, Illinois gave the money to some private investment firm. This firm went bankrupt a few years later, leaving the Lotto winner holding an empty bag. The winner sued the lottery commission. I have no idea how the case was decided but I would wager my next powerball ticket the winner left court holding an two empty bags.

Woman wins $40M, not $40K, sparking wild celebrations
No TAXES!!!! How AWESOME is that? When it comes to the lottery, you should be able keep the entire jackpot. I wonder if the $40 million is in cash or is there an annuity? Will she have to lose about half to get the cash lump sum now?

Cali Powerball players: How much wagering for first draw?
That is why there are some lottery winners that get into financial hardship, they never think about how much the government will take. The Powerball is at $60 million annuity or $38.9 million cash value. If there was one winner from California and they chose the lump sum, they would get to keep about $23.5 million after 39.6% federal income tax. Luckily, California doesn't have state tax on lottery winnings.

When was the last time MM was higher than PB?
When you're talking about PB or MM being higher, you should qualified weather you're talking about their jackpots or cash values. PB jackpot can be higher while MM cash value is actually higher because of the annuity plans used to calculate their projected jackpot amounts.

Lottery tickets in Ohio has to have a claim filed within six months of the drawing. After sixty day the cash option is no longer available for those tickets that have the annuity alternatives.

$320 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot goes through the roof
That is largely a function of the interest rates gradually improving. As the interest rates on bonds improves, the lottery's cash on-hand is able to produce a larger annuity estimate.

$320 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot goes through the roof
I got what I posted from USA Mega. My question has been how does HRH Todd beat the official websites every time in posting? I also noticed he was kind enough to update the annuity value though I am sure he's willing to perform another update should it roll over!

It's important I win tonight's lotto
I need to win tonight's jackpot so I can take the cash forget the annuity. Plus I will split the jackpot with my mother so less money in my pocket. But I think that I can handle $40 to $50 million to live off since I make about $20,000 a year that will be financial shock. I will have to grow a custom to the new found wealth that I have but it is a nice headache I would enjoy. Good luck to me!-weshar75
