if you found a winning ticket that wasn't yours
Pac, I am sure about reporting wages from personal experience, but I never won enough gambling to report it. The IRS rules regulations and confusing, but here is an article from Bankrate.com I found that might help (or not!) One paragraph states:
When you have to report it
Even if you didn't win enough to trigger W-2G filing, you do want to be a diligent taxpayer and report those gambling winnings, right? The casino, track or lottery agent might not have reported that $25 you won, but i

Florida Lottery won't pay $500,000 winner, called 'misprint'
A Florida newspaper wrote:
Annemarie Curcio said they were robbed.
My husband gave them a real $20 bill and they gave him a fake ticket, she said.
I agree with the above comments, and if the mistake isn't obvious, I think they should pay. However, there is a disclaimer stating the Lottery isn't responsible for misprints. Now this is where a boycott would really help!! We need gasoline, but everyone in FL could stop buying scratch tickets for a month and write letters protest

Writing Letters/Emails to Your Lottery Board
I have sent messages to my state lottery. They have a contact page at their website. They have always responded in a timely and pleasant manner.
I forgot what a couple of them were but I remember one in particular.
I inquired about a number that came out one time and there were something like over two thousand winners on that number. I could not figure out why so many winners were paid on that number. Seemed real odd to me at the time as I did not know.
It was the 679 combination. I think

Focusing On Winning The Lottery Is A Fruitless Event
A man's mother owns a car that is need of repair. The son says If I win the lottery I will buy my mother a new car . But actually, the son has the means to take her car to the mechanics and pay out $400 needed in repairs to assure that his mom has a dependable car to drive back and forth to the market.
Had the man said if I win the lottery I will repair my mother's car , his means to do so would be relevent, but that's not what he said.
When asked why he doesn't then just go ahead an

Would you wait until 2011 to gift money away (no gift/estate tax 2011)
Aha, it took some googling but I found an article. The Federal Gift tax will not be repealed, although it will be decreased to 35% under this act. I know it states that on the IRS web site, but I wanted to find something a little easier to read.

However, imagine if people who stand to inherit tens of millions will plot the demise of a rich relative in 2009. (the exemption will be $3.5 million maximum then, however.)

Lottery Winners Sued As Nuisances
Various facts are true:
1: THe winner claimed their winnings in lump sum.
2: They bought a house for 285k.
3: THe street was visited by police. (notice NOT their house but the street they resided on). Heck the Whitehouse could be accused of the same thing..
4: This article is riddled with allegations which leave the average reader to speculate.
I'll speculate that the first three statements are true and the rest is creative writing ...

Sex offender wins $14 million Florida Lotto jackpot
BevPicks, I was talking about throwing rocks at John Couey. I don't know what the lottery winner did or did not do. I don't trust the media, but if he hurt a child he doesn't deserve to be free to go out and do it again.
I am not upset but comments like the one below indicate to me that it is fruitless to continue this discussion.
As long as this man is not out committing more crimes against nature and people why can't folks just leave him alone? Let the justice system do their jobs

Lottery players learn tough lessons
Lottery subscriptions are contingent on the regulations as they stand at the time of issuants.
If NY Lottery had a loop hole on their side its the supposed confirmation letter.
There are many reasons for a state to allow mail in lottery subscriptions. One is: It helps those who cant drive or have weekly access to an area that has terminals. Take those that are shut ins YET still enjoy playing. Its actually another means for the state run lottery to collect a guaranteed percentage of sale

Lottery mega-jackpots generating less 'buzz'
Exactly. The minimum is, I think, still 10 million. If anyone here wins 10 million and whines that it isn't enough to do anything with, they should consider that most people won't make that much in their entire working lifetime !
Quoting from the article
No one is experiencing those [long] lines anymore, Gerald S. Aubin, the head of the Rhode Island Lottery, said yesterday. I don't think it's a shortage of money. They're just not as excited about a $240 million jackpot as they were 10
