Lottery-check scams get more seductive, ingenious

If it is too good to be true then it is too good to be true...
You're right, DD; this is a no-brainer.
If you haven't entered the drawing you've just won, or if you discover, after searching your house, that you don't have the ticket alluded to in your winner's notification, the odds are better than average that you're going to lose more money when you try to collect a non-existent prize to which you're not entitled.
Being stupid isn't a cheap hobby, and the pri

84 Year Old Wins $40M FL Lottery
With a cash value of over $21 million less fed taxes (no state tax) she'll net about $13 to $14 million.
How many boy-toys can one person use?? LOL
I won't dwell on this subject. It isn't about greed or selfishness, but it also doesn't make sense for money to (a) go into probate or (b) get paid in estate or gift taxes because someone didn't think ahead. It just makes sense for someone 84 to let a trustee and/or her children claim it, since the article said she was going to give it to

Lottery winners: beware the phone
Many of these callers will be known by the winners or will be legitimate organizations, yet others will be strangers or scammers trying to conjure a plan to get a piece of the winner's nearly $1 million - the amount expected to be doled out to each person after taxes.
The net amount keeps changing. What was the cash value? I can't seem to find it in any article. If I recall it was around $95M. So the near $1 million reported above can't be right. Even a 50% payout after fed state tax

Andy Rooney: Lotteries and lottery players are stupid
From Andy's article: ...What I don't approve of is any government agency buying radio commercials to encourage the poor to waste what we give them on lottery tickets...
What we see is Andy's bigotry against the poor. There are no commercial that encourage the poor to buy lottery tickets. They encourage anyone over 18 to buy tickets.
...You see people buying lottery tickets all the time and it's obvious that most lottery money comes from the poorest people. They don't look too smart either..

Yup, it was on the Coast to Coast website...just as an article, not as a recap of a previous show... but I'm sure that someone who was involved with that study has been, or will be a guest on the air.

Oh, those people hit a jackpot, but went on to blow it all, and now belong to the Jack Whtitaker Support Group for former jackpot winners.
Just kidding....
I've wondered about experimenting with universal consciousness though, but it seems you can't get peo

This is over in Mystical:

Your influence in this vibrational universe
Everything is about Energy, and everything is about vibration. Everything vibrates, and everything is communicating and reacting, responding and integrating with other things that are vibrating. In other words, this is a Vibrational Universe that we are all a part of.
Everything is vibrating, and as you give your attention to it, and hold your attention

Posting lottery theories
Quote: Originally posted by JAP69 on July 8, 2006 Quote: Originally posted by RJOh on July 8, 2006 I'm sure lottery officials use the LP website as one of many sources to see what lottery players are thinking and noticing about their games. When the PB game had all those 5/5+0 winners, lottery officials traced the source of those numbers to the factory that made the fortune cookies with the winning numbers, so if some one noticed a flaw in any game that would give players an edge and post it, t

interest groups lining up to lobby on web gambling
I have read in this thread and others concerning this matter people saying that the government would not be able to do anything about internet gambling.
Those of us that use online betting services have found out that many banks and many credit cards will not allow transactions that have anything to do with gambling.
Title 18 of the U.S. Code requires all banks to report to the U.S. Government all transfers of $10,000 or more.
On top of all that, you probably know about SWIFT. If not

Check Your Playslips Carefully
Wow, RJOh, your system is a lot more sophisticated than mine. Perhaps you play more than I do, but I'm impressed.
Unfortunately, I have had problems and on a previous thread on LP, I wrote about the night I got an extra lottery number on my ticket. I always have one panel marked with 6 numbers when playing Florida Lotto, but this ticket showed 2. The second one had Q5 next to it and one member wrote that this meant 5 of the 6 numbers had been chosen by the computer. I've continued to use

Investing in online casinos?
It's hard to imagine Goldman Sachs or Merrill Lynch investing in a
company that grows marijuana or scalps concert tickets. Yet the two
firms, along with such houses as Morgan Stanley, J.P. Morgan and
Fidelity, have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in shares of
online casinos, even though those companies may be breaking U.S. laws
