Mega Millionaire 'Bunky' Bartlett offers advice to winners
The annuity is not guaranteed. The government can default on it. I doubt it will cause people will still buy lottery tickets as longas there is one.

Mega Millionaire 'Bunky' Bartlett offers advice to winners
LOL nice pic. This idiot wants people to send him more money for his own personal business ventures so that he doesn't go broke? Yeah Ok...I will get right on that. No wonder he lost so much money, that is what he gets for jumping right into the limelight, which has zero benefits. I do agree with the annuity though, especially for large jackpots, way less to worry about and less that you can lose all at once.

Lotto Bankruptcy
The day the lottery goes bankrupt will be the day the dollar is worthless. So it won't matter anyway. The reason you don't want to take the Annunity, is because taxes will never get any lower than they are now. Lock into the tax bracket now with a lump sum. And pay yourself with your own annuity.

Lotto Bankruptcy
+1 Cash option is best. If you're worried about you speeding it all, buy your own annuity. Lotteries bring in a lot of money that is free. I think I saw a diagram that broke down the splits 35% of every dollar spent goes back to government. Compared to deficit its nothing but still, billions a year are billions a year.

Mega Millions fever sweeps nation as jackpot hits $540 million
With the way ticket sales are going, this evening will be insane! I would not be surprised to see the annuity hit 700 million making the cash option over $500 million

$540 MILLION: Mega Millions buying frenzy sparks another jackpot increase
Just as many people have run into problems with the annuity as have taken the cash. That's not the issue, the issue is ignorance and flatout stupidity.

$540 MILLION: Mega Millions buying frenzy sparks another jackpot increase
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Ohio annuity is $14,330,769
Someone caculated that if the Federal rate goes to 70% then annuity payments would go down to
$4,984,615 assuming the Ohio tax rate stays at 6%.
I'm thinking... so what!! $4,984,615 a year is still not enough for you
I'd take the annunity if won.

$540 MILLION: Mega Millions buying frenzy sparks another jackpot increase
Sorry, it is one or the other. You can't have it both ways. At least not in most states. You could buy your own annuity with part of the cash, of course, if you really wanted to do that.

$540 MILLION: Mega Millions buying frenzy sparks another jackpot increase
$14,330,769 is a nice after tax annuity but next year the top tier tax rate goes up (unless Congress extends the Bush tax cuts once again).
You will have no certainty from future Fed tax rate increase. If the top Federal rate goes to 70% (it's been higher in past years) then your payment dwindles down to $4,984,615 and that's assuming the Ohio state tax rate stays at 6%.
The cash value after tax in Ohio is $292,500,000 . If it earned a measly 2% in perhaps a Municipal tax free bond then yo
