Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
Yet again, another store visit, this time back in MN. Had to stop there for gas while in Owatonna MN for work; picked up a PB for Saturday. Asked two Clerks how MM sales have been going. To My Unsurprise, sales are down, way down according to them. One said, Ever since they jacked it up to $5.00. Yep, sales down equates to revenue down. Seems they were wrong about the Faster Growing Jackpots.

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
Sounds like your pool is hitting, but just not the big numbers yet. Just out of curiosity, and *only* if you wish to say, how many folks are playing in your pool(s) now and what kind of money are you playing with each draw now? Again, only if you wish to say. I am still in savings mode while waiting for the rollovers to make a really big cash value amount before I commit to a big purchase (or be committed!) . As of the week ending yesterday 07/26/2025 I have 86 draws skipped and $321.00 save

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
I think when they sold us Faster growing jackpots they forgot to factor in what could actually happen i.e the jackpot being won sooner. Weird, isn't it? They talk a lot about the upside but not the downside. Revenue per draw is up a bit, but a fair chunk of the revenue goes to pay for the mandatory megaplier. That means the slightly greater revenue isn't enough to put more money towards the jackpot based on the ticket sales we've seen so far. Ticket sales are pretty close to half of wha

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
Mega Millions lost this race. MM had sales of just under $564 million from 4/22 through 6/27. PB had sales of just over $498 million. I'm pretty sure the folks running MM think they won. The average MM jackpot for that period was $176.25 million, and somebody won $348 million (actually a fairly modest cash value of $155.5 million). The average for PB was $102.6 million, but two players won jackpots of $178 and $216 million ($77 and $91 million, assuming they take the cash). PB gave away

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
The last two jackpot wins were unusually low, statistically speaking. For the $348M win, there were 7 million tickets sold. 7 million tickets with a 1 in 290 million chance of winning means the probability that no one wins it is 97.6%. 2.4% chance that someone would win is pretty small but it can happen, and it did. For the $112M win, there were only 5.4 million tickets sold. 5.4 million tickets with a 1 in 290 million chance of winning means the probability that no one wins it is 98.2%

New Jersey Lottery proposes rules regulating courier services to allow them to operate
Something you have to remember: Courier services charge for their service. That increases the price of a ticket. e.g. A US Powerball line costs me US$4 and a MM line costs $8.45. Are you willing to pay double every time you buy tickets just in case you win big ? I pay because that is my only option.. but I do limit buys to higher jackpots :) Your bank might have reporting responsibility locally. (Person X received Y dollars from lottery provider Z.) And.. avoiding paying state tax on a w

Texas Lottery Commission votes to ban lottery couriers
I totally agree. The objectives and goals of the courier services is unsavory and has absolutely nothing to do with playing to win like every other average player on an equal playing field. The argument that courier services provide a vital service to those who cant get to the stores is weak, inferior and petty as the same persons who cant get to the stores do in fact get to the stores by several other means and ways to fill the supplies for the support of life with far more important th

Texas Lottery Commission votes to ban lottery couriers
I agree. You can't write a foolproof law that prevents corporations from working through these third party couriers to buy a lottery. Depending on who you believe the courier here used two sites, one in Austin and another in Waco, working around the clock. Another version is they used multiple sites. So limiting the number of tickets any single terminal can process daily will not prevent the couriers from using more locations. The state and the commission recognized this flaw and saw the ba

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
I therefore don't think it's worth it to compare a three game draw and a two game draw, I don't feel that's it's really comparing apples to apples. IMHO the sensible comparison is by the week. When PB added the 3rd draw the sales for Wednesday and Saturday drawings went down a little bit, but by adding Monday sales they got a modest increase in weekly sales. The roll records are directly related to sales. And sales are generally down compared to anything farther back than the past
