Romancandle, I see your points, too. There's a term in gambling called relative to the buy in, and along those lines a raffle top prize couldn't touch a lottery jackpot. Maybr some state will get really innovative and conduct a raffle where there's options of buying from $1 to $10 or $20 worth........and each dollar would win so much. maringoman, also haymaker, It's really not the true day in and day out fans that go to the World Series, Super Bowl, etc..... In many cases it's people with corporate sponsored tickets or those with enough money to go just to say they've been there. The real fans are those baseball fans who go to the Tuesday and Wednesday games when there's no big giveaways and promotions, or the football fans who go to an 'ice bowl'. Hey there LottoGuyBC, I know one of the 'rules of thumb' is that once they reach the playoffs the spread exists solely for the benefit of the bookies, and another is a double-digit dog is an automatic bet in the NFL and +9.5 sure is close to 10! I think Stack47 is talking about the fact that there is more losers than winners in the lottery. Actually it's a fact every state lottery website with MM statistics says only 1 out of 40 tickets win something, but none of them say each ticket has a 50/50 chance. To make simple, I'll just say the outcome is either winning or losing but you'll lose 39 times for every time you win. It's a 2.5/97.5 proposition. Do they still use the coin toss on the NFL? I agree. There is a deeply mystical property to numbers in how they help us understand everything from the best ratios for load-bearing structures to the relativity of space and time. And they do tease as well. 9 wins will get you into the NFL playoffs, but 8 will not, while having mega number 8 instead of 9 could similarly tease if you hit several or all of the other numbers on that ticket.
