It's still a lot of money, but just for the record, the $17M and its $12M cash payout is $7.8M after taxes instead of $9M. The difference is because you would be in the 35% instead of the 25% tax bracket. Unless you try the Steve Martin routine on the IRS and say, I forgot that I received a check for $12M this tax year - well, excuse me.

It looks like this mystery is now solved. I took a closer look at the dates with both calendars for 1980 and 1981 and all the dates land on Sundays. This must mean that in the very beginning of the game they skipped Sundays and ,therefore, there was no drawing on Sunday for this game and probably the others too. It looks like the NY Lottery was wrong when they told me that the numbers are missing due to bad record keeping. If you check out the dates for Sundays starting from 9/7/1980 until 7/26

Also, why don't you take three jars, place 0-9 in each one, and pull one from each jar. Record your results. Do it 10,000 times and see if this helps you understand how random this is. OR I will say that they first figure out how much they took in, and then decide how much they want to pay. If they want to payout $90,000 then they figure what combos they can draw that would pay that dollar amount, and let the RNG pick between those combos alone. They're still coming out ahead, and I don't think
