Small Jackpots vs Big Jackpots
I like big jackpots like anyone else, but lately I been playing games with smaller jackpots and odds. In Massachusetts we have Megabucks Doubler and Cash Winfall and i've been playing those more recently. Megabucks is at $3,000,000 right now with 1 in 14 million odds. I'd take the annuity which is for 20 years. Cash Winfall is at $1,175,000 with odds of 1 in 9 million and the payout is cash. I'd be eating real good with winning any of those.

Tax Strategies For Lottery Winners - Lump Sum vs Installments
When I win the lottery tonight that is powerball. I am going to take the 30 year annuity. I like the payment plan because I will grow old with the money coming to me every year.-weshar75

Tax Strategies For Lottery Winners - Lump Sum vs Installments
Anyone who wins should take the lump sum. Within the next 26 years, there will be tax hikes and high inflation, why get locked in with the annuity? Having control of your money allows you to make changes should new factors get added to the equation.

How would you design a game so more people win?
Games like Pick5 with better odds have winners all the time. Facts are they are so easy to win that their jackpots hardly ever go over $500K cash. If that $500K cash was used to buy a 30yrs annuity, it could be advertised as a million dollar jackpot, but most winners would probably prefer cash.

Tax Strategies For Lottery Winners - Lump Sum vs Installments
wow if the gov gets to change the tax rules after you win lotto and decide lump sum or annuity, then you should get to change how you want paid 3 months after they change their mind how things work.

In New York, the annual payments are binding, see below: n Georgia, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, and Texas, players must also choose, in advance, whether they wish to collect ajackpot in cash or annuity. Georgia and New Jersey winners can changean annuity ticket to cash; however, the choice is binding in New York,Oklahoma and Texas. If a jackpot prize is not claimed within the required time limit, each of the participating Mega Millions members get back all the moneythey contributed

MADDOG'S Powerball Challenges (Discussion)
It turns out, the answer is at the Link I've been tacking onto my Powerbal (Summaries) postings every week! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powerball Scroll down to the section entitled Winning Expectation. It's all spelled out there. The table even details examples of various cash and annuity amounts. I was correct that about 1/3 of ticket sales is what the cash option should be, and wrong in assuming it is not, because IT IS! If I had payed more attention to this article, I would have notic

Merry Christmas indeed! Lucky N.Y. lottery player wins $49M
I think we both just have different thoughts on this. I really don't see a problem with the announced jackpot being about twice as much as the lump sum as they tell you it's the annuity amount (at least at the places I see the jackpot amounts) and also because any jackpot win would be enough for me so don't see an issue with jackpots not being high enough.
