Annuity or Cash??
I can't see any reasonable rational person taking an annuity, can you? 1) Why trust the US dollar to be around until your last payment is paid? 2) We all know that the current tax rate is going to go up and not down, so why pay more in taxes over the life of the annuity than you have too! 3) Trusting foolish people will be parted from their Aunnuity by their Bankrupt Government! 4) CASH IS KING that's the only rational way to think in this day and age of all the Government Bailouts o

No MegaMillions winner tonite. 266M for Tuesday
The cash value is $165 million. It will probably be over $200 million for next Friday if it is not won Tuesday. The annuity will be over $300 million. Considering only 68 million tickets were sold for last night's draw, it's very realistic to expect the jackpot to roll again Tuesday.

Lottery Winner's Plans? Paying the Bills
I'm 57 and if I ever win I'm going annuity-and make a will so my kids get the rest when I die. I think cash value is a bad choice especailly the way the economy is right now.

Lottery Winner's Plans? Paying the Bills
No annuity for me thanks but it'll be interesting to see where he's at in five years to see if he's gone even further into a lottery winner stereotype or not... He probably should have waited until he had things sorted out before coming forward because he's going to have all the crooks out there giving him their sound advice to bankruptcy. Then he's going to have fun of dealing with his exes he's had kids with (maybe some he hasn't) and other issues that will be coming his way. Best thing he can

Powerball outmuscles Mega Millions in sales, jackpots
This story brings a big duh from me.... I said it months and months ago that the crossing over would benefit Powerball more than it would MM since Powerball stood to gain access to many states with large populations compared to PB's availability in mostly smaller populated states. Besides that, people are suckers and only look at the annuity amount which is more inflated on the Powerball side and the cash option difference isn't as big. Plus there's the thing where MM has better (which isn't say

POLL: Jackpot amounts
Maybe there's a thread devoted to this elsewhere on here, but curious how many players/LP members would take the annuity payouts with the MM and PB with jackpots being so high?

$300,000,000 Jackpots
$300,000,000 jackpots weren't that common before the states started cross selling tickets for both multi-state games, but now if they do happen they won't need to roll over as often. Now that the interests an annuity can earn being lower, the cash value amounts have to be a lot more for that size jackpot which increases the chances that it will be won before reaching that size.
