At the very least, there's a very good chance of winning the $ 150 prize in the MM on a regular basis (2 to 4 times per year) in a 10-15 person pool that permits everyone to recoup their investment and improve their chances of winning the largest prize.

The Math and The Lottery
I have found that I do a better job picking my own numbers using trends that I have learned. I think statistical analysis helps you to that end, but relying on it too much takes your eye off the ball.In my opinion the quick pick algorithms used are slanted to intentionally build the jackpot pool.Jeter Fan

Lottery
S.P.: I'd be willing to chip into a pool occasionally, perhaps once a month or less frequently as huge jackpots dictated, of $ 30 if there were enough participants to raise several hundred dollars to reduce the odds significantly.

Filter/Reduction Choices
Why would you include numbers in your combinations that you intended to eliminate later with a filter? Wouldn't it be easier to eliminate those numbers from the pool of numbers before creating your combinations? RJOh

Where does the starting jackpot come from
It's just some reasonable number based on forcasted initial sales and the odds of hitting the jackpot. Normally, the cash option value of the starting jackpot is higher than the actual amount in the prize pool for the jackpot for sales at that level. They only start it at $10 million because odds are nobody will hit it. Then they need apply only the minimum rollovers until sales can justify going beyond that.

New Pb MM odds of winning
I agree with you.But that also created a chance for a lottery pool, in which you will be able to decrease the cost of tickets to as low as one cent a ticket per person, and not care about spliting price with a hundred people since there are still enough prize money for each after split.Playing one cent for a million will be fun, don't you think? :)
