everyone wants a lump sum but
Absolutely not! How would they make a profit? Of course they discount the future value of your annuity. What else would be the point of buying it from you? That would be like saying a car dealer is going to give you the retail value of your car. The only way the dealer can stay in business is to give you the trade-in value and then sell it at retail.

Powerball lottery to have larger jackpot, but harder to win
Just be grateful they don't simply use smoke and mirrors, creating a phony jackpot of 500 milion by changing the annuity payout again. Stretching it out to 35 years, or decreasing the initial payments and adding a ballon payment at the end could easily let them inflate the advertised jackpot by 50%. I know that MM said they could potentialy see a jackpot of 500 million when they changed the matrix, but I'm not sure if PB every claimed that as a possibility. Even with the new odds, reaching a

Countdown to Powerball in Florida
But I do like the fact that if you get all 5 white balls and you chose the power play option you win a million dollars and there is no annuity on it.

Cool $207 million up for grabs in lottery
Advertising the annuity jackpot is a marketing strategy to make people think that the jackpot is really 207 rather than advertising it as it really is. The lottery is a buisness just like anyother.

Mega at 207 - cash prize is still 68%
The destruction of the financial system by the scammers in the Bush administration has implications in this case, since interest rates are low on government bonds. This is because they are considered as safe compared to say, stocks, or corporate bonds. They are not safe, but they are considered so. Back in 2007, the annuity to cash ratio was more like 59%, meaning that the cash prize in the current drawing would have generated a marketing claim of a $239 million jackpot. I always rely on t

Mega at 207 - cash prize is still 68%
Sales are also up. Funny how sales reflect the cash prize more than the annuity value.

$170 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot raised
I really doubt it's going to jump 40M, it'll be lucky if it breaks 200M if it rolls again at the rate it's been going. Due to the weakness in the bond market, it's 50M behind the pace of where it was earlier this year after the same number of rolls. On the bright side, even with how big a difference there is in the annuity the cash difference is only about 18M.

Do you still feel the same about Cash Option or Annuity??
I would take the cash option, but not because I think that if I take the annuity, then I won't get all my money. I think I would.

Stop The Sale Of NSW Lotteries
In one of the discussions here on LP about some of the U.S. states doing the same thing, talking of selling their lotteries to private businesses, someone pointed out that ironically, the states themselves want cash option over an annuity .
