Collecting Big Winnings
I would claim it as soon as possible, especially since i plan on taking the annuity. I would also pay my taxes as soon as possible; I couldn't relax on my beach front property until I paid off my debts!!!

Set-For-Life lottery?
I would too. that's why i would pick an annuity rather than a lump sum. I'm not sure what I would do with millions of dollars all at once. I've never had thousands of dollars all at once LOL

NY Turkey Raffle Gobble Gobble

Weak bond market lowers lottery annuity jackpots
Now is the BEST time to take the cash option. The market is going to EXPLODE UP in the next couple of years as that is the effect of the fast drop right now. So if you sit on your winnings and then jump in when it starts to explode you will make TONS more then if you took the annuity.

N.C. lottery turns record profits for state
Except that you don't receive payments from the state. The state is required by law to take the Cash amount of the jackpot, and purchase (buy) the annuity. The state is no longer in possession of the money.

Cash or annuity
I still say cash only please. Like you said, there are no gaurantees in life, anything can happen 25 or 30 years down the road. Like I said in a previous post, I can just see it now Due to the recent changes in....... All Lottery annuities have been temporarily suspended until further notice. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. This is just like our government to pull something like that ten years into an annuity.

Neck and neck
PB and MM have both advertised the same annuity jackpot for two drawings now. There have been plenty of times that they've both been fairly high at the same time, but this makes me curious about how often they've both had the same jackpot at the same time. I could spend some time looking, but I'm guessing that somebody may already have been keeping track.

Michigan $42M lottery winner to claim jackpot today
It is, it should be about 18.5M after the initial taxes. A smaller amount might be easier to manage but of course they're going to be paying state and federal taxes every year on it with the annuity and I'm sure those taxes will be going up, possibly by a significant margin.

Michigan $42M lottery winner to claim jackpot today
On the other hand, who knows if the Mega Millions Lottery will make good investments? They could go broke by making bad investments and file for bankruptcy, leaving lottery winners that chose to take an annuity holding an empty bag.

Michigan $42M lottery winner to claim jackpot today
Ordinairly I'd agree with you,but the way the economy is today, and I was younger,I think I'd take the annuity.I'd let the Mega Millions Lottery figure out how to invest the money and just send me a check every year.
