Three largest online poker sites shut down by FBI
Executives indicted, arrested
The founders of the three largest online poker sites were indicted by the FBI on Friday in what could serve as a death blow to the thriving industry.
Eleven executives at PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker were charged with bank fraud and money laundering in an indictment unsealed in a Manhattan court. Two of the executives were arrested on Friday morning in Utah and Nevada. Federal agents are searching for the others.

Man gets 23 years for robbing Illinois lottery winner
A Rolling Meadows man shot four times when two masked intruders invaded his residence in search of lottery winnings says he still worries about being home alone at night.
On Friday a Cook County judge sentenced one of his assailants to 23 years in prison.
Robert English, formerly of Berwyn, received the sentence Friday in exchange for his guilty plea to attempted first-degree murder, home invasion and aggravated battery with a firearm. All are class X felonies punishable by up to 30 years

Thieves try to cash stolen S.C. lottery tickets in N.C.
A Gastonia, N.C., woman accused of stealing scratch-off lottery tickets from a Clover Mini-Mart tried to retrieve prize money in North Carolina and successfully cashed 27 winners in South Carolina before being caught.
Kristi Lynn Welch, 20, was booked in York County on Monday night in connection with a break-in at Borderline Mini-mart on U.S. 321 in Clover, authorities say.

Lottery winner picks up check, then gets arrested
$4.4M lotto winner goes straight to jail
It was a good news, bad news day for Barry Shell.
The good news: he won more than $4 million. The bad news: he ended up in jail.
Shell, from Brampton, Ontario, picked up a check for $4,377,298, the top prize in the July 18 draw for the Lotto 6/49.

Missouri Lottery changing games Monday
Missouri Lottery players will get a new numbers game Monday, but also lose one.
Show Me Cash, a daily on-line drawing, is set to begin Monday when the twice-daily and struggling Show Me 5 Paydown game goes out of business.

Worker accused of stealing winning Oregon lottery ticket
An investigation by Oregon State Police Lottery Security Section detectives has led to the arrest of a Springfield man who allegedly stole a winning $50,000 scratch-it ticket from the victim at a Springfield restaurant.

U.S. Settles BetOnSports Online-Gambling Civil Case
A federal prosecutor reached a settlement Thursday with online gambling company BetOnSports PLC that permanently bars the London-based company from accepting any bets from the United States.
The lawsuit has been closely watched by the online gambling industry, which generates about $6 billion annually in the United States.

Lottery scammer arrested in Ohio
Patience paid off last week as police nabbed a man they believe used the guise of lottery winnings to scam people out of thousands of dollars.
