VIDEO: Why we hate computerized drawings
You'll never want to watch an animated lottery drawing again
By Kate Northrop
If you know Lottery Post, you know we hate computerized drawings, but it's not that we dislike computers and technology... so why all the hate?
There are far too many documented incidents that prove again and again why computerized lottery drawings are too risky, no matter how many safety precautions and procedures are in place.

Intralot's D.C. Lottery contact finally passed by council
The lucrative and long-controversial lottery contract has finally passed the D.C. Council.
Intralot, a Greek-owned multinational firm, has been approved to take over the city's online number games from longtime operator Lottery Technology Enterprises---a contract worth nearly $40 million over five years. The company's successful first bid ended in a political fiasco, with several councilmembers refusing to ratify the contract after raising questions about minority partners. A second round of

D.C. fines lottery operator $1.4M in ticket scam
GTECH Corp., the operator of many government lotteries worldwide, was fined $1.4 million by the District of Columbia this month over charges that its subcontractors or a partner firm hacked into the district's lottery system and printed winning tickets for themselves two years ago.
The fine, which GTECH calls a blatantly political move, comes as the firm is locked in a long battle to retain the New Jersey contract it has held for more than two decades.
GTECH and its Washington, D.C., partn

Ontario Lottery adds signature requirement for claiming prizes
Ontario is a very unsophisticated over-socialized politically-correct governed provincial state. It is filled with individuals who seem to be ignornat when cashing or checking a lottery ticket, but oh so brilliant as to when they buy one. They seem 'not to know what to do' after they buy a lottery ticket! Did I say unsophisticated?
People here want 'all forms of government' to hold their hand when they check their ticket, but not when they buy it!!! Talk about a controversy! [OH, OH, I can se

Tenn. Lottery players complaining over switch from numbered balls
Thanks to the Tennessee Lottery's unilateral decision to abandon traditional lottery drawings using numbered balls to pick the winning numbers on television, many players have decided to stop playing.
The Tennessee Lottery now has computers generate random numbers instead of the player-preferred televised drawings.
Lottery officials say the new system is as secure as the old one. Many players don't like the change, though.
I don't trust the computerized drawings, said Nashville reside

More Texas Lottery trouble:" Auditor's warning erased from report
Texas Lottery executives were warned in a draft audit last winter that their decision to gut the agency's security force and fire most of its officers threatened the lottery's security and integrity, but lottery officials never disclosed those findings publicly.A copy of the December draft obtained by the Houston Chronicle said that a reorganization ordered by lottery executives actually heightened the lottery's vulnerability to ticket theft, ticket counterfeiting and undetected fraud. But those

Giant lottery operator GTECH wants to add Tennessee to its clientele
Financial advisers have long said that lottery players would fare better investing their money in the stock market than hoping the pingpong balls pop up with their numbers. If you followed that advice and bought stock in the largest lottery operator in the country, GTECH Holdings, over the past decade, chances are the investment would have paid off better about 500% better. The West Greenwich, R.I., company's stock price has doubled in the past year, closing Friday at $42.77; GTECH's revenues have
