Lottery scams hard to resist for some
If I won money and drove to the Lottery Office, I certainly would expect to complete paperwork, show ID and have the 25% tax deducted. In Ohio and in most states when you win $600 up to $5000, any lottery terminal agent can validate the ticket, fill out a form, and give you a voucher that you take to a designated bank for payment. Taxes are not deducted. The bank charges a $10 processing fee and that's what I meant about the Teller having no common sense because she wanted the 10 bucks befo

Ethics or Not
This reminds me of a well known expression: No good deed goes unpunished. Clare Booth Luce We all know what is in our hearts and more than often, what a person decides is the just moral thing to do is often very subjective. Often the final decision is between him, his spiritual counselor and God. The Law is something entirely different. Although it's supposed to be designed by men women of moral fortitude, I admit there's lots of room for improvement. However everyday we use it

In my hometown...
Some hucklebuck chick gets bored at her job...scratchs off tickets during her third shift...and HITS for 100k! The kicker is: The article alledges she never paid for it, and she works at the conveninece store. claims its, and later is under investigation from her employer for stealing lottery tickets during her shift. She post bail using the very money she had been given from the winnings! The officer tells the newspaper she wont be able to keep the winnings. If memory serves, once

Mega Millions - How many tickets do you have ?
Well, now that I've officially purchased tickets for this drawing about 10 minutes ago... the jackpot is guaranteed to be hit. Not by me, by someone else. Since that seems to be the curse I have on lotteries. Whenever I play, it doesn't roll and I don't win. In case my curse has been lifted, I read an article that said if the jackpot rolls tonight that it will be set at 470 million for friday. I think it would be set a lot higher than that. Oh well. In conclusion my conversation

2 million dollar Supercomputer?
I was reading this article: http://www.informationweek.com/story/IWK20011109S0036 And if you read the last paragraph you will know that IBM built (or is building) a supercomputer that can make 7 trillion calculations per second (or teraflop) for 24 million dollars dubbed Blue Sky ..Some of you may have already heard me saying that with a supercomputer you could perhaps analyzed in depth and crack the lotto...Some of you may disagree... What got me thinking is

Where are the 50,000 members?
Think of this site like a newspaper. For example, the Atlanta Journal/Constitution (also lovingly known as the Atlanta Urinal/Constipation due to it's liberal slant) has a subscription base close to a million (equate subscription base to be similiar to online membership). Now, consider this, just how huge would that paper become if each and every reader posted an article of say 500 letters. Also consider, many utilize this for informational purposes. Also consider that there are a huge number of

Lottery players learn tough lessons
Sorry, I disagree with the 2 comments posted here. Unless I am reading this incorrectly, someone mailed an application and never received any type of confirmation until 11 days AFTER he won? Sounds very suspicious to me. First of all, I don't see stated anywhere in this article how he paid for these drawings. You don't send cash through the mail, so did they cash his check? Did they charge the amount to a credit card? If so, the lottery is liable. If I didn't get a canceled check within

High rate of Tenn. Lottery scholarships are lost by bad grades
the key problems with youth today I can't comment about Tennessee, and this article is a wakeup call for their educational system, but I have been hearing about kids nowadays for about 50 years (and I'm 55.) I know just as many parents who have children who are well balanced and get good grades as I do those who have troubled children. It's the same 'ol, same 'ol...people always talk about the youth of today as if they are worse than the earlier generation. My parents would talk a
