MM jackpot turns out to be $390m
It doesnt matter if Powerball gets to $370 million or higher before the cap because it will still not go over $390 million annuity. The cap is set from the previous record of $365 million, not how high the jackpot is before the cap. So all powerball can do now is TIE the record. But even if PB reaches $390 million, the cash value would only be approximately $187 million compared to Mega Millions $233 million.

Lottery results worth $370 million drawn in Times Square
Those are the New Jersey winners only listed on that ticket. You can get the same kind at your lottery retailer for your own states winners in the same format. A is for annuity and C is for cash value. In NJ, there was one winner and they took the cash value. There could be winners in other states though.

which is best--powerball or mega millions
No problem. You might want to check out www.ohiolottery.com (official website of Ohio Lottery). It tries to list a accurate (I don't know how accurate it is) cash value of the current annuity jackpot.

Lotteries long for 'jackpot fever'
In many cases, the in-state jackpot game is very inferior to MM/PB (a number of PB states don't have a classic lotto game.) MM/PB are better than NY Blotto (terrible payout), MA Megabucks/GA-KY-VA Lose for Life/OR Lose for Life (no cash option except for the El Cheapo in VA), and several games (ie Ohio Classic Lotto) where the cash value is fixed at a percentage of the annuity, instead of a (higher) floating percentage.

90-year-old wins $1 million in Fla. Lottery's Monopoly game
That's how it's advertised. Usually if a game has a choice of annuity or lump sum there is an asterisk and a footnote indicating it's not the actual amount. So I believe you are correct. To me this is one of the hardest things about playing the lottery - $20 is a heck of a lot to spend on one measly scratch ticket that will probably end up in the trash. On the other hand, I'm sure this lady and her family is happy she blew that $20 bill!

Man with terminal illness wins 20-year annuity lottery jackpot
Selling the annuity will net him less than if there was a cash value option, but he can certainy indulge himself a bit if he chooses. As far as providing for his family, if he has one, he's now got a chance to leave them more than he would for losing any of the numerous games with cash options.

Man with terminal illness wins 20-year annuity lottery jackpot
Is the annuity inheritable? Can you leave it to family/friends? If you can't leave it, can you sign it over to someone while you are still alive?

Successful lottery winners don't change too much
Obviously there are people who believe that annuity payments are better since you can't blow it all right way. But lottery ticket buyers are by law ADULTS, and should never be forced to receive their winnings other than how they would prefer (of course the overwhelming majority of winners want lump sum.) Some people still want to force their beliefs on lottery players.

Saturday's PB Win
It sounds like the federal tax rate right now, according to you, is 35% if you take lump sum, but 33% for annuity. Better read it again.

I went to PA to celebrate the end of Lucky for Life
I'm also guessing that he had a LONG conversation with the store clerk about how happy he was that Lucky for Life is finally gone and how annuity only games are no good. And I'm fairly certain what was going through the clerk's head, same thing that's going through ours.
