tax strategy
You are correct in that I did misread your post (portion referenced reposted below for clarity). For that I do apologize. However, I do ask this, how does gift/estate tax factor into what would basically be purchasing and/or exchanging of your Operating Loss ? Because the law has changed on gift tax, in 2007, my wife and I can each gift an individual up to $2.0M without triggering the gift tax. This impacts your otherwise good calculations and increases the savings substantially. All

Finally! See the ratings
Lets see if I got this right. I tried some trial and error. When I open the forum like pick 3 or any other. The topics that have been rated will show on the forum page. I can click the star rating and get who voted without my vote registering. When I open a topic that has been rated and I have not voted on that topic I will put my browser arrow on the stars. Putting the arrow on the stars when I have not voted will not show how many rated the topic. When I run the browser arrow back an

The vastness of the odds for a jackpot win...
My statement was offhand and probably in error regarding PER WEEK 10-20. *Daily*, yes. However I stand by the basic premise. of investing your money. I thought your basic premise was comparing the huge odds against winning a lottery jackpot to investing the money you spent chasing it. I suppose it depends on how you define huge jackpot , but it in the last Mega Million run, it took 5 weeks before people began noticing there was a huge jackpot ($130 million). The jackpot tripled in size ($3

Is there a winning system?
confirmation bias It is the peculiar and perpetual error of the human understanding to be more moved and excited by affirmatives than by negatives. --Francis Bacon Confirmation bias refers to a type of selective thinking whereby one tends to notice and to look for what confirms one's beliefs, and to ignore, not look for, or undervalue the relevance of what contradicts one's beliefs. For example, if you believe that during a full moon there is an increase in admissions to the emergency ro

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
I use what is called a Poisson distribution, assuming that all purchases are effectively random. When the number of tickets purchased is very small compared to the odds, a Poisson distribution will give numbers that are close to the numbers obtained by dividing the number of tickets purchased by the probability. However as the number of tickets purchased increases, there is a greater probability that each new purchaser will purchase a ticket with a set of numbers that has been already purch

trojans??
I have heard excellent reviews of both Kaspersky and Trend Micro. Myself, I try to keep the number of different companies' products on my PC low, so I like to use a single software suite, and then supplement with one or two free (but good) software apps. For years and years I have used Norton products, but I finally and unceremoniously dumped them in the past month. I have grown weary of the over-bloated Norton code that has come to invade every part of my system. It seems that the Norton
