if you could change one thing.......
Eliminate the MISLEADING ADVERTISING of using photos of the jackpot winners taken with the big cardboard checks for the JACKPOT total amount. This leads people to believe that is actually the amount they won, when in fact they won only half that. Most winners choose the cash option and I see no way the lottery commission can justify showing them with a check for an annuity 26-payment total.

Another lotto didn't buy happiness story
If the winners can't handle a one-time cash jackpot, more than likely they can't handle an annuity jackpot either, as they may end up borrowing against future payments anyway, like this couple apparently did.

Florida lottery winners indicted on tax charge
Once again the media gets it wrong. They did not CHOOSE annuity. Florida Lotto's cash option did not start until 1998.

Another lotto didn't buy happiness story
More proof the lottery doesn't bestow intelligence on winners. I find it ironic that they had an annuity and still couldn't handle the money. Evidently some people think principle only involves a school.

is powerball really worth it?
Yes but inspite of Mega having the highest odds it still can't roll once it breaks 300. It already distinguished itself by having the worst annuity since Pepsi Billions.

MM finally catched up to PB
It seems that MM has a bigger market than PB. Although MM's has bigger cash value than PB's, I would allocate my budget equally between MM and PB because, at the same current ANNUITY jackpot of $220M, both MM and PB now offers almost SAME expected value per dollar spent on buying the tickets.

take 5 scratch off
Are you talking about the New York Lottery's Take Five? If so then absolutely. When counting the free Take Fives it has the best odds in the country. And even if you only count the cash prizes, it would still be the best odds of any $1 scratch in New York. It also pays 65 cents of dollar to prize winners, which is high for a $1 game. In conclusion, buy an Instant Take Five, or buy two, or buy 10. Now in order to save CASHOnly some keystrokes, I will now post his contribution to this thread

Mass. House to Lift Lottery Aid Cap
That, and also those who live in two states, are reasons why Florida should start the 60-day clock with the claim, rather than the Lotto/Mega Money drawing. (Both games have annuity jackpots.)

Man claims Powerball lottery prize just before it was due to expire
I don't think he would have waited so long if the prize changes to an annuity before the 90 days were up. Florida Lotto winners have only 60 days from the DRAWING to claim, otherwise they won't get a lump sum.

Mega Millions Sets A New Record
Geez! It took only eleven rolls to get a CASH JACKPOT of over $100 million!! I remember last year it took Powerball twelve rolls to get an annuity of over $100 million when it finally got there after having a lucky string of eight jackpot wins under $50 million.
