Are Scratchers infinitely harder to win?
The largest top prize on a scratch off, I believe is either $15 million or $30 million. One of the New England lotteries if I'm not mistaken.
In regards to top prize odds, there are some draw games with better odds. But this doesn't help your wallet. You will do better in the long run playing games with better overall odds, while at the same time retaining that small chance of winning a jackpot. For instance, MM has odds of 1 in 14.7, but the worst $1 scratch-off in my state has odds of less

Do people like their state lottery draw games?
I think the games in Texas have prizes that are a little too low for the odds. For example Ohio has a 5/39 game that starts at $100,000 and rolls. Our Texas 2 Step is a 4/35 + 1/35 that starts at $200,000 with odds at 1 in 1,832,600. Odds 3 times higher for a starting jackpot $100k more?
Our Cash 5 game is a 5/37 game that doesn't roll when no one hits. The jackpot is a whopping $17,000. Sometimes it might get to $20,000. It depends on ticket sales. It really sucks.
The new games they brou

Just bought MM quickpick, not knowing odds got even more absurd
They should call them further odds and closer odds so we know what they're talking about.
Thicker and thinner odds would be ok too.
And maybe faster and slower odds.
Even hotter odds and colder odds might be ok.
But hemorr odds would be ridiculous.
So let's not even go there.

Do you feel like you even have a chance anymore?
I 100% believe that you can examine the patterns, manipulate and massage the odds in both directions(increase your odds and lower the lottery's odds). Ive run several simulations with my picks vs quickpick for a sample size of millions of comparisons, and the stats are there to prove you can increase your odds beyond a quickpick.
I certainly don't know everything about the lottery, but ive done my large share of research, problem-solving and experimentation, and what Ive found is, that if you

Why can't I win much on scratch tickets?
It's very simple. There is no mystery about scratch tickets, at least to me.
Look at the odds table printed for any scratch game. If the odds are 1-in-1000 odds for a $100 win on a $5 game, well then you might have to buy 1000 tickets, or spend $5000, in order to be likely (~63%) to get that prize. Even if you spend that amount or even twice that amount, it's still not guaranteed that you will win that prize. Sounds harsh, but that's the reality. And the top prize may be around 1-in-1,000,000

Do some number combinations have better odds?
Those are the odds QP players get because they get 5 of 56 numbers and the same odds apply to a 46 combo 2 if 5 of 56 numbers wheel and 46 QPs. The odds of having a four number match for both plays is 333 to 1.
We're trying to better the 39 to 1 odds that any group of 28 numbers gets and the odd against three or four number matches are proprotional to the number of three and four number matches in a group of 28 numbers. When any of four of the 28 numbers match, there are 24 four number matche

Buying More Tickets Does Not Increase Your Odds.
It's unlikely that you're so bad at math that you can't figure the odds with extra tickets. The lotteries do the hard part of figuring out how many possible combinations there are and then tell you what your chances are if you buy 1 ticket, such as 1 (chance) in 175 million (possible combinations) for PB and MM.
You're right that it is a common sense thing. That 1 on the left side of the odds literally represents one chance. If you buy more chances all you have to do is change the 1 to reflec

Define A System That Works...
Since I only play pick5 and jackpot type games, I think of systems in terms of those type games. For me the time required to do a system work-up is too much for a daily game.
For me a system that works should increase your odds of winning and be within your budget to play. It doesn't have to make a profit continuously but it would be nice if it did.
For example PowerBall has odds of 1:195,249,054 of winning the jackpot and overall odds of 1:35 of winning a prize at all. If you reduce your

Texas Two Step Odds
I saw when I was writing that there was a small mathematical error, but I don't have a calculator that would make it easy to determine how many combinations of white ball numbers would exist. Your post showed me that the simple way is to divide the jackpot odds by the number of bonus balls.
The odds of winning the second prize are 1:53,900. This is a little bit harder than matching all four white ball numbers because you must match those numbers and also not match the bonus ball. As you state
