winning ticket for powerball in Neb.
Why would you take the annuity? For the next 26 years, you would be at the whim of any government, state, county, or city lawmaker who wants a few more dollars to spend on a pet project. Lottery money's are just laying there waiting to be taxed at whatever rate a politician could raise it to. Look around you, states are growing broke. They have already used up the Tobacco money, in the next few years, they will be going as deep as they can. Taxpayers will never complain about raising the ta

Best Method to Collect - Powerball
reading on powerball.com. And reading the tax info and how it works...If you take the lump sump..you will get maybe around $90 mil. That is still alot of $$$, but why so many taxes? You go from winning $365 mil to leaving w/ $90 mil . But it also states if you take annuity, you also earn interest. That will be a tough 60 days to think of which option to take

Best Method to Collect - Powerball
Since we are all on the discussion of the Powerball today, if you win tonight... how are you going to accept your winnings and why? Cash Option or 30 Year Annuity Cash Option - you have to pay taxes on the lump sum... but you are also going to have to pay taxes on the interest you receive each year from your bank accounts. 30 Year Annuity - Pay taxes each year on the check you receive each year. If I do win the powerball tonight *grin*, I just want to know the best way to get the mon

$400 Million Powerball ?
Also it is not like anyone would ever actually see $400 million anyway, even if they did pick the annuity. I would much rather have that much money while I am young, not when I am 60. But after choosing cash, and taxes $400 million is actually about $150 million or so, which is still more than enough.

$400 Million Powerball ?
If the Powerball does roll the $390 million annuity will be a big prize and so will the Match 5 bonus prize pool. It will probably be around $70 million or higher for 2-22-06.-weshar75

Match 5 Bonus Pool
This is one of the best ideas I've seen in the lottery world. Maybe they should do this on a permanent basis, but with a higher cap, say $50mil annuity per roll. Bigger Match 5 Bonuses, more often.

I tried to do a search on lottery PB tax.
$177.3 million is not the after tax value of the jackpot. It is the cash value option. The advertised amount, $365 million, is the total before tax amount you would receive if you took the annual payments, which are paid in 30 graduated installments, to adjust for inflation. $177.3 million is the amount the MUSL would have to invest to support the annuity payments if you took that option.

will you play the new win for life?
Never bought a win for life scratch off, and probably never will. What is it, three winners out of a zillion tickets; then yoiu have to take the annuity. That's like buying a used car on Main Street.

Tennessee lottery winner sues state
I guess I said that because happy winners usually don't sue the lottery, they just cash their checks. I agree, it is puzzling. What she says and what she actually does with the money may be two different things. Her willingess to accept the loss of money on the annuity transaction and the loss of money to legal fees are a sign that she urgently needs a pile of cash for some reason, but only she knows exactly what that is.
