Original buyer of $1M lottery ticket identified
Why is this thread always bumped up? The prize was annuity-only. We should be talking about prizes paid in lump sum.

N.C. lottery hires have connections to Ga. and a Senator
GA has a much better lottery than NY. As long as the former NY lottery director doesn't conspire to come out with a half-dozen or more annuity-only scratch games for GA.

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
The Megamillions jackpot has rolled over and the cash value is now $44.9M. The cash value reached on the last drawing was $38.8M. The annuity value is now $75M. The lottery is apparently predicting 19.7M in sales. If this proves to be correct, the probability of various numbers of winners is given in the following table: 089.39%110.02%20.56%30.02%

MA lottery definition of "millionaire"
No US lottery misrepresents the true meaning of millionaire as MA and NY do. There are scattered annuity-only scratch games in other states.

worst lottery in america
I voted for NY because of the terrible payback in NY Lotto, and its annuity-only scratch games. The King Kong Millions game was drawn by computer.

Canadian cattle farmer keeps $1 million lottery win secret
Good thing Canada doesn't force lottery winners to receive annuity payments. NY has a Debt for Life scratch game that doesn't have a cash option.

What happened to the 'Blue Game'?
Seeing as how the MUSL uses a floating percentage of the annuity for the cash values of the Powerball and Hot Lotto jackpots, I'd guess that they would do the same if this game were to be implimented.

Wish list for 2006
I apologize for not doing this last year at this time.NY: A minimum 50% payout on Lotto and the phasing out of annuity-only scratch games.MA: Cash option for Megabucks and scratch games.PA: Cash option for Unlucky for Life or retirement of game.OR: Same as PA with Lose for Life (WA Lucky for Life scratch has cash option.)Lotto South: For KY to stay. Failing that, there should be a secondary game for Mega Millions states a la Hot Lotto.Hot Lotto: For CT, OK, RI, and more MUSL states to join.

Probability of a Rollover in Powerball.
The powerball jackpot has rolled. The cash value is now $9.7M; the annuity value is $20M. The last two similar level drawings averaged $13M in sales. If the lottery sells a similar amount of tickets on this drawing, the probability for various numbers of winners is as follows:091.49%18.14%20.36%30.01%
