Lottery buffs fear impact on Lotto Texas
There's a new buzzword these days at the Texas Lottery Commission: cannibalization. It's being used to describe how much the new Mega Millions multi-state lottery will eat away at the sales of the 11-year-old favorite, Lotto Texas. For the first time Wednesday, people will be able to buy a chance at the Mega Millions jackpot in Texas. There are people out there ready to step up first thing in the morning, people that are motivated by high jackpots, said Reagan Greer, executive director of the com

Florida Lottery Fantasy Five going to twice a day--will you still play?
Now that there has been two drawings held, I think we can see the pattern for what the future holds as far as jackpots go. The midday draw jackpots will be low, and the evening draw jackpots will be substantially higher. (Last nights jackpot was almost three times higher than the midday's)
My guess is that FF5 players will catch on to that very quickly, and as a result will wait for the midday draw to happen, and then buy their tickets for the evening draw. I think too, that we're going to s

Mega Millions lottery jackpot raised to $447 million on strong sales
6th-largest cash value in game's history
By Todd Northrop
Lottery officials announced today that the jackpot for tonight's Mega Millions drawing has been raised from $432 million to $447 million, as a result of rapid sales.
The Mega Millions jackpot has grown since Sep. 18 and has rolled 31 times, starting at $20 million.
Mega Millions offers two jackpot payment options: the $447 million annuity prize paid out as one immediate payment followed by 29 annual graduated payments, or the

200MS, and 50X are super scarce with several prizes remaining on the website. The $5 Power 8S is a similar ticket in the same status of scarcity (2 jackpots remaining). I don't blame people for playing these tickets. Statistically, the chances of winning may be higher if there's fewer tickets in circulation and jackpots out there. In theory, your chances would be significantly better.
When Gatorsrok led the $10 Holiday Gifts Campaign =p, he encouraged many of us to start playing the game. He

Lottery commission can/should make it easier 2 WIN lottery!
There was a time when the jackpots were much smaller then they are now. Ten, twenty, maybe fifty million and people played all the time... But this was when the number field and thus the odds to win were much smaller than they are now. But every now and then the jackpot would grow much higher. (Remember the excitement over the first $100 million jackpot?) Every one wanted to take a shot at it, people who never played in their lives bought tickets. But as soon as someone hit it, the excitement di

Powerball Sales at an 82 Month Low (in terms of tickets sold)
With a starting $40 million jackpot and minimum of $10 million increase when the jackpot isn't won, it's obvious PB is for players who want the highest possible payoffs for their $2 bet. With only 3.14% of all the tickets sold winning anything, it basically comes down to betting $2 to win the jackpot or $1 million (regardless of the odds) or winning nothing.
Raising the smaller secondary prizes would increase the average play, but the extra payoffs would lower the size of the jackpots and it

$244 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery frenzy ramps up
I really don't notice too much of a frenzy anymore when the MegaMillions and PowerBall jackpots get large. Now that they're both sold in pretty much all lottery states, the jackpots grow faster and are won more often. It's just a more commonplace occurence that people don't get so excited about. None of the people who I work around ever want to start pools anymore either. (I wouldn't join a pool anyway.)
I honestly can't recall the last time I had to stand in line to buy lottery tickets excep

Your "For Life" Jackpot Numbers for 5/39 Games
Interesting discovery...was just going back in CO Cash 5 history for my brother-in-law and found 41 jackpots using the string. If you wheel them here on LP, that's 14 numbers and 2002 combos. (Try this with your game) Break them down into 10 sets....1-10, 11-20, 21-30 etc. and number them.
These are the Sets that hit--
#3,17,22,29,31,35,43 (2 Jackpots so anyone playing this set would have won twice already!), 49,52,53,61,65,71 (2 Jackpots), 76, 79 (2 Jackpots), 81,82,83,91,93,96,100,103,

What is up with MM/PB
As long as you use a reasonable definition of large jackpot we should expect plenty of them in the future with the game running just as it does now. The average size of jackpots will always be a function of the odds and the amount of each ticket that goes toward the jackpot. With odds of 175 million to one we can expect the long term results to be one winning ticket for every 175 million tickets that are sold. With 30 cents of each ticket going toward the jackpot we can expect the long term
