cash vs. annuity
I don't think you can change to lump sum, although I have heard of attorneys who could supposedly turn any annuity payment into a lump sum. However, most of those annuities are for lawsuits won, not for lottery winnings.

OT: but important, $5 VA scratcher flawed
MA Lottery just put out more info on that Hold 'Em ticket today - that $10 million prize (which will be, as I suspected a $500K/20 year annuity payout ) goes to a winner of a tournament of selected winners of a special poker prize pack (there's about 69,000 tickets that will win that (the prize pack itself is just under $600 in value) - of those 560 will be invited to the tournament for the $10 million (most will only win an additional $2,000, while a few will win $10,000, $50,000 or $50K

Too many players winning Powerball, lottery says
Quote: Originally posted by CASH Only on March 23, 2005Mega Millions and PB are much better than NY Lotto 6/59 (terrible lower-tier prizes) and Mass Megais bad$ (still annuity-only).We've been down this road so so many times. The odds alone tell you you're more apt to hit NY Lotto than PB or MM!And come on, who cares about winning smaller prizes. Play Take 5, pick 3/4 games for that. Damn I sound like a lottery director lol.

cash vs. annuity
Quote: Originally posted by CASH Only on March 21, 2005Mike:Mass Megabucks is still annuity-only...a 94-year-old winner from last year is forced to receive 20 annual payments... Wouldn't the heirs to his estate be entitled to the future payments though?

First WV lottery winner gets final annuity check
CASH Only: I don't think you realize why lotteries use annuities. They do it so people do not piss it away within a week. It's been shown that those who take the annuity do better than those who go for a lump sum. Haven't you heard all of those stories of people who took the lump sum, and are broke now?

OT: but important, $5 VA scratcher flawed
Mass. is going to have a $10 ticket coming out next week based on Hold 'Em (3 hands vs. the dealer), plus a standard number matching section) - hopefully they won't have the same problem.Top prize is stated as $10 million (only one ticket out of 80 million to be available) but it's almost certainly a $500K/20 year annuity deal.

cash vs. annuity

cash vs. annuity
I would choose a lump sum of annuity, but that seems to be the majority choice as well. It seems like the smarter thing to do. That way you can invest in programs of your choice and live off the interest.

CA Lottery- My Way.
I think for starters the annuity for super lotto plus should be the same amount over 30 years instead of the nonsence that the current game has and the cash option should be at least 50%.
