Men threaten discrimination suit against N.M. Lottery
I hate to give away my age...but I'm old enough to remember a time when Secretaries (not admin assistants) still fetched coffee and it was not uncommon to see racy posters on personal office walls. People were even allowed to smoke in their office, or in the breakroom. They had Christmas parties and someone always dressed up as Santa... Still - the fact that someone would say that to you is shocking to me. I did some checking. When I worked with the Lottery in NM they had 14 sales reps

Compromising on cash/annuity
How the US has paid lottery winners (compared to other countries, including Canada) over the years has of course generated much controversy, and discussion. In 1998, President Clinton signed a bill that, for lottery players, saw (for the most part) the end of having, in advance, to choose either lump sum or annuity payments if they win the lottery (as it turned out, the new rules had no effect here in NY-ironically, now the Clintons' home.) Unfortunately, the bill did not go far enough; numer

Allen, N.C. lottery champion, dies
State Rep. Bernard Allen, who co-sponsored legislation to create North Carolina's lottery and then pushed for a committee to make sure the proceeds were wisely spent, died late Friday, a House aide said Saturday. Allen, D-Wake, appeared to have been recovering well from a mild stroke Sept. 23. But a blood clot entered his lung Friday night, killing him instantly, according to House administrative clerk Carmen Cauthen. He was 69 years old. Rep. Allen was a tireless advocate for his cons

ark-miss-ala combine to form one lottery
Ca lotteryguy...well I live in Mississippi but I do not keep up with Politics at all..but I will take a stab at WHAT I think I know..back in the very late 80's very early 90's the casinos showed up and they had to go out in the gulf so far before they could gamble if I am not mistaken..I think they were doing pretty good so the state allowed them to do DOCK SIDE gambling..those huge Barges were anchored to the dock sitting in the water..then one after another one opened up and next thing I think

Okla. lawmaker aims to stop lottery winners from staying anonymous
I'm guessing that the statement is the result of a stupid politician meaning that it would be okay for a trust to claim a prize if the trust was formed before the ticket was purchased. The article suggests that his issue is with people forming a trust specifically to claim a prize they have already won. Since trusts and corporations are already legal entities they have the right to buy and own lottery tickets, as well as other property. Of course that begs the question of what his legislation

More offshore gambling arrests
If the government blocks gambling sites and doesn't block porn sites, we need to file a class action suit to force them to either block porn sites or leave gambling sites alone. Are there any lawyers who want a lot of publicity on a pro bono basis? Perhaps we can start by suing the two moron Con gressmen who started this mess to start with. The people need to hold our alleged representatives directly responsible for the trouble they cause. That will make them think twice before pushing tr

Reporter honored for lottery coverage
Steve Geissinger, the Sacramento bureau chief for ANG Newspapers, received a national award Friday night from the Association of Capital Reporters and Editors for coverage of California's controversial entrance into the multi-state Mega Millions lottery. Geissinger won third place. The association is composed of journalists from the capitals of all 50 states. Early last year Geissinger began writing more than two dozen lottery stories, which also appeared in the Los Angeles Daily News and

US House votes to kill Internet gambling
Everyone who keeps saying that lotteries and horse racing are allowed under the bill, STOP SAYING THAT. Lotteries and horse racing are NOT included in the bill. Re-read the article at the beginning of this thread. It says: Reps. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and Jim Leach, R-Iowa sponsored the bill. They successfully beat back an amendment to strip out exemptions in the legislation for the horse racing industry and state lotteries. Goodlatte called that a poison pill amendment, aimed at def

Online gambling threatened by U.S. legislators
The legislation to be debated blends two versions of bills that have been offered by Rep. Bob Goodlatte of Virginia and Rep. Jim Leach of Iowa, the two said in a statement. What needs to be done, is they need to investigate these two fine fellow citizens whom are supposed to be politicians. I wonder if the lobbyist have fattened their bank accounts over this. There is a paper trail everywhere. If they're really that concerned over this, they need to go after the sites that allow
