Lump sum Vs Annuity
Cash value is what the jackpot is worth today... investment income can be handled with the use of municipal bonds. I would take the cash. If you choose to, you could purchase a smaller annuity, and have the luxury of shopping around for a better rate. Most financial advisors have stated that it would be better to take the cash.use the search link above, pros and cons have been covered here ad nauseum. ;-)

Powerball Jackpot Reaches $55 Million
How are those accountants at the Powerball Lottery calculate the jackpot's cash value? $55MM annuity vs. $30.1MM in cash option. You got to do better than that. Mega Millions $51MM brings you $30MM in cash. Where is the other $4MM going?

Texas Two Step likely to move to new days
I was wrong about Match-6...Tue Sat seemed awkward.TX 2-Step and FL Mega Money are both 4+1 games. However, Mega Money will undergo a format change. The biggest difference in the new version in FL is that the jackpot will be ANNUITIZED.Assuming TX 2-Step is retained, the jackpot should stay ALL-CASH, especially since TX has _not_ adopted the 60-day window in which jackpot winners can choose cash or annuity AFTER winning.

Florida Mega Money game getting "way more mega"
Yes, the current top-prize for Mega Money is a cash prize. They will be changing that to an annuity prize. I assume there will be a cash option, although it hasn't been announced.

Florida Mega Money game getting "way more mega"
The Florida Lottery announced today that beginning January 28, the Mega Money game is getting way more mega. The first drawing for the new game will be held Friday, January 30, 11:15 p.m. EST. Mass. Lottery games to merge, jackpots to increase
I e-mailed MUSL and they believe it'll be CA joining Mega Millions. That presumably would mean CA joining NY and TX in requiring Mega Millions players to choose cash/annuity when they BUY the ticket, with the other states using the proper rules.

Automatic QPs
The WORST automatic quick-pick was the 5-digit bonus number found on each New Jersey Pick-6 ticket (one per play) until September 2000. An exact match (no bonus prize for a 4/5 match) entered the player into a periodic bonus drawing, which featured a top prize of $50,000/yr for 20 years; the annuity was mandatory even after the cash option began in 1997.

$2-per-play lotto
Rhode Island for years had a $1-per-play lotto that worked more like a $2 game; a $1 bet could win only the jackpot. You had to make a $2 ( insurance ) wager to be eligible for a lower-tier prize.Furthermore, the jackpot started at $30,000 cash. However, if the first prize pool reached $200,000, it changed to an 11-payment annuity, with NO cash option.

NY Lotto: 25 years of ripping off winners
Johnph77:You can't go by the annuity value. It is based on fluctuating rates, and has no bearing on the percentage of sales that go to jackpots.

International Lottery Game Collapses
vince:If CA joined Mega Millions, presumably players would still have to choose cash/annuity when they PLAY (as in NY/TX.)PB, regardless where played, doesn't require the choice UNLESS the jackpot is hit.
