11 more retailers suspended by Florida Lottery
So the fraud is not the winning ticket itself but the act of cashing it in for the true winner? I thought that perhaps these retailers were doing something with the bar codes on scratch offs to pre-determine which were winners.

Did you know some states they use hidden letters in scratch offs? In Arizona, the three-letter codes have a winning code up to $500 (FHN for example).

Nce! I will occasionally scratch a code first just for a change of pace or sometimes just the last letter of the code. Seeing an
N at the end used to gaurantee at least $10 until they added some losing codes that end in N to prevent sneaky clerks from barely exposing them before selling tix. My second biggest winner on a scratch ticket was on a $1 ticket several years ago. See pic-

As others have stated, the larger over $600 Florida scratch ticket winners have non-winning three letter codes. I wouldn't be surprised if these three letter codes on the big winners are also recorded as an extra security measure so on the big winners they know what three letter code is supposed to be on the valid ticket (someone trying to fake a ticket would also have to know which non-winning three letter code would go on the ticket).

have you guys seen any losing ticket codes like VCW or others that are actually winning tickets? I came across a pic on page 13 of the FL scratch offs forum of a thousand dollar winner on a single ticket match but it had a non winning code. makes me wonder if any of the non winners in my heap are a winner because usually if i accidentally scratch one of the letters and see a non winning code i dont like to check the ticket thoroughly coz it makes me mad. by the way is it stupid to hang on to the

True, but Id prefer to get screwed on the joke triplers like $5 tripler on Gold Rush 5X 5 and 10X2 on the 100X game. Theres nothing like the thrill of an instant win. I usually scratch the bottom numbers first, then scratch the numbers youre supposed to match. When I dont get an instant win, Im still hopeful for a major prize but you can generally sense wether it will be a winning ticket. Ive started to get familiarized with the winning codes so before I even scan the numbers I know if it is a w

TAX... lower tier prizes
A $100 a hand Blackjack player could win $1200 by breaking even after 24 hands. Is it the intent of the IRS codes that all casual gamblers and lottery players must keep records of every hand of Blackjack or every scratch-off ticket and declare every winning hand or free ticket as income?

Here's an idea, how about a Vending Machine Scratch Tournament
I cannot get over my experience with the Newburgh, NY vending machine. Its so easy to play and win/lose with the new machines. Imagine a bank of those machines and scratchers lined up just like the slot tournaments.
I guess you can feed $500 on the machine and just scratch the bar codes and tally wins. Most wins in a 5 or 10 minutes gets a trophy.

are clerks supposed to scan scratch tickets before you pay?
Where I buy my tickets, everything is scanned for the cash register including candy bars and papers before I pay. A different scanner is used for scanning lottery tickets for winners and if they are scratch-offs, the codes have be uncovered before it can read them.
