Mega Millions $241mil Cash or Annuity
If you're the lucky winner of the $241mil Mega Millions jackpot on Tuesday which payout would you take? With the amount of cash that the Annuity would payout every year makes this kind of a tough decision for me.. which would you choose.

New England states start new lottery game Thursday
Lotteries fund annuity prizes in a couple of ways. Some lotteries are limited to a very few U.S. government bonds. Others can buy a much wider range of government-backed securities and, in some cases securities held in trust by custodial banks to back portions of the annuity payments (though generally not more than 10% of the principle and interest). In other cases, like Lucky For Life, the annuity payments are paid through insurance company contracts. In a very eerie kind of way, insurance comp

Question about Cash or Annuity
My question is about the cash option and the annuity option in say Powerball. If I was lucky enough to win the jackpot and I bought two seperate tickets of the exact set of numbers which won, can I pick the cash option for one of the tickets and the annunity on the other? I thought about this when the Powerball got over 300 million. Obviously each ticket would only be half of the Jackpot if I was the only two winners...

Cash Vs Annuity Payments
For me, it depends on how much the advertised jackpot is. If the annuity turns out to be $1 million (or more) a year, I'll take my chances with the annuity. If it's less than that, it doesn't really seem worth it to go for the annuity, so in that case I'd take the cash up front and try to make hay with it.

Cash Vs Annuity Payments
I am perplexed too see how many people have voted against choosing annuity option, which I see clearly a better choice. Some arguments (as in February 2012) 1. choosing cash option means big reduction of starting capital, cash option is undervalued by 5-10% than it should, it depends on jackpot amount. 1.1 choosing annuity means lottery will need to allocate more capital for payment of increasing annuities, in time total amount of money gets bigger easier than with cash. 1.2 the valu

Powerball at $2.00 - If play, how mouch have you won?
I start spending my $2 when the jackpot gets to $100 millions annuity. When the starting jackpot was $20 millions annuity I used to start playing it at $40 millions annuity, that's the reason they increased the ticket price to $2 and the starting jackpot. They did not want players like me to get a free ride.I still get the free ride by starting to play at $100 millions annuity. I have won $4 twice, but I am playing for the jackpot or a second prize.

Is 50 Million Dollars Not Enough??
It take 6 rolls of $10 millions for powerball to reach $100 millions annuity. That is when the heavy hitters start spending big money on the powerball. I hold on to my $2 until $100 millions annuity, I want to win a really life changing jackpot and anything above $100 millions annuity offer me that. We will have a lottery game with a $100 millions starting jackpot soon, if players continue to play powerball heavily every time it reaches $100 millions annuity.

Powerball multi-state lottery to raise prices, jackpots
Well, rocket scientist, from the Powerball website, there were twelve 2011 Jackpot Winners. The only group is the Flatbush Avenue Dodgers. The Carvajal Family Group is more likely a family than a pool. Hardly 2/3 of the 2011 winners, KY Floyd. You also didn't mention that those in a pool might win and not collect for a good while because a former member of the pool thinks they have a share coming, and depending on the size of the pool an individual's share might not really be like hitting a j

mega million jackpots not going up as quick
It has to do with annuity rates. The cash option is going up but the annuity is not so much.
