the hole in your argument is that quick picks are not forced on customers, they are only an option. you can still pick your own numbers.
this is my best guess, but i think the lottery offers players the option of quick picks to make it easy on retailers. if lottery players had to choose their numbers themselves, there would be a lot of players wasting time at the counter hemming and hawing over what numbers to pick, and that would waste retailers' time and make lines longer at the counter. q
