Something stinks with Powerball
No, but how about they appoint a House subcommittee to investigate? How about sweeping regulations affecting lotteries? You'll recall that Sanford the billionaire banker's recent downfall was instigated by a blog entry. If these series of posts brings about the winds of change needed to stoke the fires needed to weed out corruption in the industry, let it be. Let it be.

New report criticizes Iowa Lottery security
Ridiculous. Iowa runs one of the best lotteries in the country, having effectively removed any possibility of fraud or corruption within their corporate structure. The Iowa Lottery doesn't even conduct their own drawings - they use Illinois's numbers for their lotto and daily games. Apparently, from what I read in the article, the problem rests with dishonest retailers who don't feel compelled to pay their winners, but the Iowa Lottery can't be held responsible for the criminal behav

Contract controversy reveals D.C. Lottery's tangled roots
It always surprises me when I see a good story like this one not getting a lot of feedback. When you're complaining about having computerized drawings, or the wrong games in your state, or the employee bonuses are too large, this kind of thing is where it all originates! It is very important to understand about who is running the lottery, what their motivations are, what company is operating the games, what they will try to push on the lottery, etc. If there is corruption in the lottery, p

buying lottery tickets
Last night a lottery clerk told me they don't have to clear the screen to run play slips and the machine beeps when its ready to accept another play slip. She said the other clerk probably had her other hand on the touch screen when she ran my play slips and I think the other clerk was leaning on the machine. It makes more sense to me that screen was dirty and she accidentally added multi draws and multi QPs to what was on the play slip. When Scary Chick was told the machine had been acting up a

Florida Gov. suggests selling the lottery
Eeek!! Florida has already lost most of its wildlife. If Alligator Alley is not protected there will be very little undeveloped land left in South Florida. The toll is already $5 to go back forth to Miami or Fort Lauderdale. That's not including the gas and the tolls on the FL Turnpike. Often privatization means better money management, but at what cost to the public? I actually believed that privatizing medicare was a good thing, because the premiums were so cheap (often zero) and we

Indiana Lottery finds $13,000 mistake
In response to the 2 previous posters: Yep we have just entered our 11th month without a winner. (That's more than 90 consecutive draws.) And despite a lottery that has been riddled with scandal and corruption since it's inception...and a history of rigged games (albeit scratch off's) and the use of an RNG...and yet another mistake by an outside vendor... It could happen! Yeah! And monkey's might fly out my b*tt too! Jim

Lottery Gangsters
In FL the location of the retailer is announced the morning after the drawing. Then the winner's name, age and town of residence is mentioned in a press release when the ticket is claimed. A very high percentage of winning tickets are sold in Miami-Dade county. A lot of people work in that area, and many people buy their tickets on the way to work or when they're on their way home. I do agree with the folks who say If you don't like the rules, don't play it. After all, the lottery is

Lottery Gangsters
Learn statistics. Firstly folks can BUY in one area of the state and have the claimants address be in one of the populous areas. Example. BOUGHT a 10k winner in a shop in hucklebuck near the adirondacks. Travel home to ALbany and claim the ticket based on the home address. The Lottery reports NOT where the tickets were bought but where the claimant was from. This leads folks to beleive the winning tickets are from the same area of the claimant. (editors notes: I dont live or ever did leave

Florida Cash 3 - 07/02 to 07/31/2007
This is so strange. I even started a thread in the discussion forum about this. It even gets stranger. Yesterday when I went to the liquor store to buy my tickets, I saw a regular that buys alot of tickets. As he was leaving, he said that if I wanted to win the p-3, that I'd have go talk to those bookies in Miami. I asked if he really thought some corruption with the balls was happening, and he reminded me of the Pennsylvania case. I personally don't believe there is any tampering going on

You win a jackpot and have to appear at a press conference
Y'know how everybody's always talking about how winners should be allowed to remain anonymous no matter where they live? Anybody brave enough to take a bullet for the cause? Show up without having showered, shaved, brushed your teeth, or combed your hair for a week. Wear the same clothes you slept in which should be dirty. Spit chaw every 5 seconds, have bad aim and occasionally and hit a lottery official. No matter what question the press asks you, tell them what rotten SOBs the lot
