Will debt ceiling be increased?
We have to cut spending in the future. We can't unspend money in the past. The debt ceiling increase is not an appropriation. We can increase the debt ceiling and make good on our obligations and at the same time cut future spending. The most frustrating thing now for me is that people see an increase of trillions of dollars and assume it's more money spent. It isn't more money spent, it's money that's already been spent. The debate now is over whether to pay the bill. This hell should be rai

Minnesota shutdown boosts Iowa border lottery sales
Sales of Iowa Lottery tickets at retail stores along the Minnesota border are getting a boost from the Gopher State's government shutdown. State offices in Minnesota have been closed since July 1 because Gov. Mark Dayton and the Minnesota Legislature have failed to reach agreement on a new state budget. The shutdown includes the sales of Minnesota Lottery tickets. We have checked with locations in a few different communities that are along the major highways that run between Iowa and Minn

Gulfstream Park 3/14/2010 Full Card Selections
Hey Bighitter, First off thanks for the posts. I enjoy reading your predictions and you seem very knowledgeable on the races. I just wanted to ask you to expand on your money management a bit, if you wouldn't mind. Do you only play your selections if they're going off greater than 5 to 1, or do you just increase your bet if you're getting value? Do you have a special way of betting the exotics, cause boxing four horses can get pricey? And do you do some kind of bet increase o

Dual multi-state lottery sales may keep jackpots lower
The increased chances of a winner will go hand in hand with bigger increases from one jackpot to the next. As long as the odds don't change we can (still) expect a long term average of one winner for every 176 or 195 milion tickets sold. Of course few of the jackpots that are won are average, and changing the number of tickets in a drawing will change the likely results of *that* drawing. When the jackpot is still relatively small the chance of a winner will still be relatively small, so we c

How Long Will It Be Until We Have A Lotto Billionaire ?
I think if they raise the prize of each ticket from 1 dollar to 2 dollars, each year the jackpot will reach around 750 million and if they raise the ticket to 3 dollars it will definately reach to 1 billion dollars once a year....I champion the idea that they should raise the ticket from 1 dollar to at least 2 or 3 dollars....Some people may disagree with me...If they were to merge MM PB and keep the price of each ticket to 1 dollar i say the jackpot will reach 1 billion dollars every 4 or 5 m

Promoting more lottery play
With all of the wagering opportunities we have, I wonder if the potential for lotteries has been pretty much maxed out. Is there any way that state lotteries can significantly increase their handle? As a jackpot player, I'd like to see more players in order to help the pots grow to higher levels at a faster pace. I'd also like to see other lottery games have more participation in order to help diminish the need to increase other state taxes. What measures would help to increase lottery sa

Powerball sales skid hurts lottery profits
Major changes in the game in August should lure players who want bigger jackpots.Powerball players got lucky during the past 12 months, winning lots of smaller multistate jackpots but dampening overall enthusiasm by reducing the number of huge payoffs in the $200 million to $300 million range. The players are just beating the game, Iowa Lottery President Edward Stanek said Monday. We had 11 Powerball jackpot winners the year before, and we have had more than a 50 percent increase for the fisca
