For me, the $5 ticket price just makes it so I have absolutely no interest in playing MM before the jackpot becomes sufficiently large. Although I also typically wait a bit for the Powerball jackpot to grow, I'll still sometimes throw $2 at it if I happen to be somewhere that sells tickets.

I think Mega Millions will keep this $5 price tag on the tickets for at least another 15 years like they did with the previous $2 ticket price. But I also suspect that Powerball will raise their ticket price to $5, especially with the success that Mega Millions has with this recent large jackpot.
