Mega Millions odds 1:259 Million, almost half already used up..
Paula Otto, executive director of the Virginia Lottery and Mega Millions' lead director, told the Associated Press on Sunday that sales were up by as much as 20 percent over weekend numbers and were expected to spike on Tuesday, the day of the drawing. I think we'll be very close to the record, and maybe even surpass it, Otto said, adding that sales are difficult to predict. Lotto players are procrastinators. They tend to buy on the day of the draw, she said. As of Friday, players had

$550 MILLION: Mega Millions holiday bonanza!
It might not break the record by tomorrow, but I'm sure it will, come this Friday for Sure. I predict it'll be over the Billion Dollar mark on or about time for the Christmas Eve drawing. Dreamer,

Poll: Does it make sense to play
The only odds that matter are the odds of having a jackpot winning ticket on Tuesday and that depends on the sales. Friday's sales total ($175 million) was the fifth largest in MM history and it's possible because of the matrix change less than 50% of the combinations were sold. If Tuesday's sales get close to the record ($651 million), there should be enough combos sold to produce at least one winner. The sales were less than the 3/30/2012 jackpot run on the $100 million plus jackpots and ma

Widow and daughter will split estate of poisoned $1 million lotto winner
So far I've only seen states VA and OR as not allowing a lottery win to be claimed by trust/LLC. But the issue of winner identification is not so much in the Trust, but the lottery rules. You match the numbers that's just the first part. Then they have to valudate that the ticket was legally obtained and not by an employee, etc. Then they can demand to know who the winner is, like the case with the Hot Lotto lawyer who claimed at the last minute but refused to divulge the original buyer of th

Was that the official concession speech from Mega Millions?
I wouldn't say it's a lack of confidence but rather a lack of support. They were wrong in their projections (scary since they are supposed to be conservative) and actually had a shortage of funding. I suppose this should be expected given it is only the first run in the matrix, but a shortage has occurred several times already. On top of being short in funding, the annuity factor decreased from 1.869 to 1.848. This means last night's advertised $344 million jackpot was only worth $339.1 million.

Pa. lawmaker wants to give lottery winners right to remain anonymous
I Love this but only selfishly. I've deliberately gone out of my way to purchase tickets in anonymous Lottery States because if i win i want NO ONE to know. I love this move but its a slippery slope. If i win, i want to remain anonymous. If you win, you want to remain anonymous, fair. But what happens when it all goes 'dark' and no one really knows anyone who wins??? Not good. Its tricky and i'm not sure what the solution is. Maybe it could be set up where if the win is a multi-state pot (PB/MM)

$297 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot raised again before tonight's drawing
Actually, MM sales seem to have responded nicely since the new matrix. Their ploy with the pumped up annuity value seems to have worked, players seem to have bit into it hook, line and sinker. Sales have been boosted by the pumped up annuity value. Below graph compares current run in blue (with projections) compared to preceding $189M run (P) on old matrix ending 10/1/13 in orange: But compared to a year ago with the record $656M run (R) , yes, way down. But that was a different time w

$297 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot raised again before tonight's drawing
You set the bar pretty low if you think that's a frenzy. The last time MM got this high was almost 2 years ago, in the run up to the record $656 jackpot. At that time the advertised jackpot was increased $49 million, from 241 to 290 million, compared to the current increase of $40 million. The actual cash value increase was more than $34 million, compared to the current increase of about $21.5 million. If it rolls, maybe we'll see something approaching a real frenzy after they start advertisi

How much would you wager on A 1 Billion dollar Jackpot at one Time ?
$5 is $5 regardless of the price of a ticket. The odds are so ridiculously high that the only numbers that really matter are how much you risk and how much the potential reward is. A jackpot of $1 billion is a certainty. The only question is how soon it will happen. Just as a really simple figure, the chances of a winner are now approximately 1.5 times as unlikely as they were for the record jackpot. That means the same probabilities that resulted in an annuity jackpot of $656 billion woul
