Well why I think he did clearly try to cheat his coworkers, the problem is that even if he had won with his own tickets (vs the group ones), I doubt anyone would have believed him. Short of scanning in the tickets you buy each time, you will probably end up having to share even if your personal tickets win (someone will sue you and unless you have a lot of proof and scan and email the group ticket numbers to everyone in the pool), you will lose. I don't get why people do lottery pools.

Yes.It was only 5 grand and it was like a big cat..All the guy we're making fun of me because i just opt out a few weeks earlyer...the headguy of the lotto pool had to run around chasing people down fir the money and thats when i said i'm out ..then two weeks later the BIG HIT....5 GRAND...so at 54 years of age i'm still learning about how money really changes people....It was very upsetting to see long time friends acting like two year old kidds....oppps....I sorry ,that was an inslalt to two y

I was in a pool of 20 co-workers before I retired and played the Ohio Super Lotto. We matched 5of6 for $1500 three times and had the same problem about taxes since the player claiming the prize had to pay the taxes. We settled that problem by paying a member's kid attending college and earning too little to pay taxes to cash our winning tickets. They not only got what we paid them but a refund of the taxes deducted when they cashed our ticket.

There's some bad math in this article or I'm just not getting it. If the guy took the cash option which was $24,000,000 after taxes and now has to split it six ways that would be $4,000,000 per person. While I understand there may be attorney fees why would they have to pay taxes on the $4,000,000 individual portions as the taxes were already paid on the $24,000,000. This must be wrong so I'll assume each guy is probably getting about $3,900,000 as it's not going to be over $500,000 for the five

It sounds as though this lottery pool is too large. How often do you collect more signatures than monies due in your unmanned envelope? The article, above, indicates that not only should each player receive a copy of the front of lottery tickets but also the BACK side of tickets ... I don't know of any machines that do that easily, what a hassle before each drawing, multiple times per week!

I would have to lean towards establishing a set of rules and guidelines with signatures for participation and sharing of the moneys won...or have only 1 friend you could 110% trust..or as some have suggested, stay away from the pool altogether. Trust but Verify !!!

Stay away from LOTTERY POOLS It's a recipe for disaster and someone always DROWNS. If you insist, buy together. If that isn't feasible have the team leader scan the tickets and e-mail them along with the receipt and some notation in the body of the e-mail acknowledging that these number were pruchased on behalf of a,b,c who are current members of the xyz pool having agreed to share equally any winnings from x drawing...etc, etc
